Just a bit of a firearms afficianado (sp?) thread. What impractical or expensive gun would you buy if money was no object?

Easy, an embellished wheel lock. Given the age when they appeared, the innovations of the design were genius and their relative cost to make meant that the artistry of embellishments were almost after thoughts. Two please, with an appropriate rapier and back dagger, cape, boots and hat.

The one Bowen built is in .45 Colt. I'd have mine built in .44 Special.

Though I did see a Type 17 (a broomhandle mauser in 45 acp) that I thought was super impractical but still cool

    Oh, my.....

Yeah; I have to admit I was a fan of the original "Miami Vice", and of the Bren Ten carried by Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett. Got a chance to handle one, and was stunned by how well it fit my hand. One of my most difficult moments of life was finding an original Bren Ten with not one, not two, but six magazines, for about half what a Bren Ten should have gone for.... and I was only short a hundred bucks.

The General Electric M-134 minigun requires an electrical power source.
A 24 V. DC deep cycle marine battery is usually the power source.

Notice the electrical power cord on this 5.56 mm XM556 Microgun.

    50 bmg for sure

Custom 1911 from nighthawk or other quality shop.

Is a grenade launcher legal? If yes, then yes.

A WWII Luger passed through my hands a couple decades ago. Not practical, but loved the historic design. Would like a John Martz .45 custom version. Just because...

    And why not?
Finding a good holster would be a challenge.
If I lived where I had the space to shoot one, would already probably acquired something comparable.

If I had unlimited money (for the ammo as much as the gun) I'd get a Smith and Wesson 500. There's something about hand cannons and odd handgun calibers I really dig.

Of course, why buy a gun I have no chance whatsoever at getting proficient at using, I struggle enough with 44 mag.

Then there's the issue of it being illegal where I live.

If I were American my holy grail expensive gun would be a MP5/10 in 10mm auto. Beautiful firearm. Or an M16A2. Both ridiculously expensive (thanks Reagan!)

When I lived in CO I had Whitworth (historic optical sights) and a Sharps in .45-110 (iron sights). We used to shoot out near the Airport before it was built at targets up-to 1,500M. Challenging... like shooting hand held artillery given the trajectory and projectile flight time. Practical? No. But, interesting and challenging.
