I have come across several articles of uMkhonto weSizwe veterans (the millitary arm of the ANC during Apartheid... translated The spear of the Nation) saying they are angry and dissatisfied with having to live in poor conditions after they have won their freedom from Apartheid. Many feel robbed by the negotiation process that left them on the outer...while many of the elite ANC are millionaires and billionaires (platinum mines in South Africa have an 80% world monopoly and most of this money goes to tribal chiefs). It does appear that the MK vets have made demands from Durban municipality for higher wages, they will now receive triple their wage (R6000 to R20 000 a month increase) for MK veterans only. The idea was to build the country to accommodate and uplift as many of the poor as possible during the negotiation and handover in 1993-1995 however this process was derailed by the theft of much of the funds to be used and the mismanagement and failure to maintain current infrastructure. The Haws have acted against corrupt officials in Durban municipality on corruption. The tender in question is but one in countless many across the country that have been illegally awarded and included illegal backpayments to government officials in order to award these tenders. We are talking about millions and millions...all gone, spent on BMW's, fancy houses, and god knows what else. Let's not forget that much of South Africa's infrastructure is collapsing, 1000's of bridge systems across the country, 50 000 litres of sewage flows into river systems per second... money have been taken, nothing was done. But the white farmers must hand over their farms. If you had to calculate what black South Africans received... an economy worth 1000 times more than the land they want to take from the white farmers, mines of platinum, coal, gold, diamonds, all the state owned enterprises...airline, transport systems, world class health system an electricity grid that won an award as best in the world during Apartheid... none of which were there until white people started building it. Handed over for free. But they must take all from white people because they are white...let's just call it what it is, racism.
