The attorney general of New York took action Thursday to dissolve the National Rifle Association following an 18-month investigation that found evidence the powerful gun rights group is "fraught with fraud and abuse."

Attorney General Letitia James claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday that she found financial misconduct in the millions of dollars and that it contributed to a loss of more than $64 million over a three-year period.

Imagine how much money the trustees have put in their pockets over the last 25 years...

I'll bet you a couple of bucks we'll find proud members, like consenting victims, who'll find a reason to excuse Wayne LaPierre...

I'm guessing by the same measure, we can cancel Greenpeace, The Sierra Club, PETA, BLM.

Churches are next. Then VFWs and the like.

Political crap that cannot be accepted prima facie.

    We're going off the rails.

Not surprised this AG activist, Democratic hack would try a stunt like this. She's accusing NRA officials of misusing their office to enrich relatives, isn't this what Biden did with Hunter?

The NRA is my favorite civil rights organization.

These are the same politicians that refuse to stop people shooting each other in the streets.

    But the NRA? Get them!

As far as Grifters go, LaPierre is definitely a world-class scam artist.

In 2014, NRA contributions totaled $103 million and LaPierre's compensation was $985,885. In 2015, NRA contributions totaled $95 million. In that year, LaPierre received a $3.7 million deferred compensation distribution from his "employee funded deferred compensation plan", which was required by federal law, and according to the NRA raised his total annual compensation to $5,110,985.

In August 2020, Leticia James, the New York Attorney General, filed a lawsuit against the NRA and LaPierre, as well as treasurer Wilson Phillips, former chief of staff Joshua Powell, and general counsel John Frazer, alleging fraud, financial misconduct, and misuse of charitable funds

Years ago NRA members that have been paying for attention have been demanding that LaPierre and a number of other board members be removed. They have stopped funding them and transferred all those donations to the second amendment foundation who are the people that are the real thorn in the sides of gun grabbers as they are the ones who file all the suits against states that think there is no second amendment. God bless Alan Gottlieb.

Maybe you should send LaPierre some money to help pay his legal fees.

He needs your financial support, again.

    That is bizarre analogy.
Although I agree that the optics and idea of utilizing nepotism in order to obtain cushy jobs and enormous salaries is unsightly and IMO tacky and a bad decision, it is in no way is the same as what the NRA is alleged to have perpetuated.

1/3 of the members of this civil rights organization are registered dems...doing this 89 days out of an election will backfire bigly!

if NY AG, who ran on a campaign calling those members terrorist, was only interested in alleged fraud or stolen donations she’d only go after those in charge not try dissolve this civil rights group

An organization nearly 150 years old and this person thinks they have the power to dissolve them. Laughable at best.

Not sure if they can dissolve the NRA, but if those people did steal that much, a jail they will be heading

Already a member, but thanks anyway. I'm much more concerned with government wasting billions a year, I pay tens of thousands a year in taxes to them.

Agreed, go after the bad actors. John Durham is doing the same in his investigation, nobody is suggesting we dissolve the FBI due to their abuses.

So if a conservative GOP AG finds abuses in Planned Parenthood, Media Matters, BLM, Southern Poverty Law Center, etc. can she dissolve them?

Project much, in addition, if you read my post correctly, I stated I didn't think she could dissolve the NRA.

    Being consistent helps the argument

Does anyone know if the NRA is based in New York or whether it has chapters in every state?
