I was raised to respect women. But since that was a while ago and things have changed, I am finding myself in situations that are confusing.

This morning is a good example. I was on my way to work and I stopped at this corner store where I usually stop. I went inside, got my usual cup of java and was headed out the door. As I opened the door a woman dressed in military fatigues was headed toward the entrance of the store.

Had she been dressed in a more feminine fashion I probably would have had no problem holding the door for her as I was taught to do as a young man. For some reason the military attire made me wonder if she wanted that type of treatment or would she be offended? I was truly at a loss here.

Luckily there was enough distance between us that I could speed up a little and just not hold the door, as if I were in a hurry. But how awkward it would have been if she had been at the door at the same time I was leaving. I probably would have held the door. I figure if she was offended, she would probably forgive an old guy like me for my old fashioned ways of being polite.

Anywho, my point is this: Can we please decide on what is and is not socially acceptable these days? I mean, if the finger wagging libs are going to preach about the evils of the old days shouldn't they also give us an idea of what is acceptable? I can do it either way but for Pete's sake can we just pick something and go with it?

    Rant complete.

I do what I think is right in any given situation. If someone chooses to be offended, that's their problem.

My advice, don't waste your time worrying about it.

I hold the door anyway. I was taught that it was gentlemanly and polite to hold a door for a woman, so I will hold a door for a woman. If she doesn't like it she'll tell me so, and I'll hold the door for the next woman anyway.

My wife says I'm stubborn and hard headed.......don't know why?

I do it for everybody--men and women--in case there is a group of Ninja Dwarf Lesbians waiting inside to kill somebody. Increases the odds they will be too busy to notice me by the time I spot them and I can make a quick get away.

Well that is a good point and normally I do but for some reason the "women in the military" thing threw me. Is she one of those who wants to considered the same as a man? Is she going for the Special Forces?

Nah, it is worse than rocket science. We are talking about feminist dogma here.

I hold the door for everyone. If they get offended because they have been subject to false notions about the meaning of it what do I care. The idea that someone would be upset that I did omething considerate for them actually makes me laugh. The way our world is going... laugh or cry?

Exactly. If someone wants to get angry at you for trying to do something nice, they can go take a nice long walk off a short pier.

Sorry you have to ask us how to behave. Do we have to teach you everything? ;-)

Maybe but feminism has gotten many folks confused. I say the feminists need to relax a bit and not get so bent out of shape.

O.K., stop drinking kool-aid, it really warps the mind. After that everything clears up and starts making sense again.

Telling them to relax is sure to get one of them shrieking into your face.

It depends. If folks would stop drinking to lefty kool aid I doubt that kind of damage would ever reverse itself.

I haven't lived in Atlanta in a long time, like decades. I know they are trying to bring more people back but they better get some kind of diversity without criminal records fist. Chase all the latino and black gangs out and make Atlanta Great Again like it was before the criminals took over i n the early 80s. I have a black neighbor who use to live down there and she won't even go there in broad daylight.
