yep, overdraft protection is just a contract where the account holder agrees to pay a fee... if you decline the 'service/protection', all they can do is notify you that you're overdrawn, they can't charge you, because it is their fault, they monitor every transaction in real time, and could easily have declined your purchase/payment... people are duped everyday... i never sign up for that bs... EDIT: remember, if they say "it's for your own good" or "it's for your protection" , it's actually for their own good/protection, same as with our government...
There are many reasons not to use a debit card (far less consumer protection than a good credit card being one reason). And you should ALWAYS know your cash position and never sign your signature to pay interest except in an actual emergency or a mortgage or a decent vehicle loan. Life costs more for the financially undisciplined, Darwinism in action.
