Small town (~9K) Far Northern IL

There are signs in EVERY business out here that masks are required but I've seen some workers overlook customers not wearing them. I guess not enough were complying so Pritzker had to make an emergency order. This is not going to go well.

Looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy decided to come after businesses like he has private citizens. Gotta love it when governors become makeshift dictators.

What do you think he should have done differently? I'm not justifying his behavior. I'm just curious how this could have been handled better? Personally, I'm in a very small town so I expect this has more to do with Chicago and other larger areas not complying.

Leave the businesses alone. It’s bad enough this guy is trying to boss everyone around like in a country ran by dictators. The solution is simple, no fines at all.

He’s been enjoying those vacations a little too much.

Just curious is what gives him the power to order fines if they have not been approved by the legislature first.

Anyway, my state has been doing in on paper through the health department but it seldom happens other than occassionaly hitting up the low hanging fruit like gaming parlors and bars.

    I agree.

    Legislators did get involved...

That's how it always works. Go after the small businesses that are barely hanging on while the higher ups who bump elbows with the rule makers get away with all kinds of nonsense.

Democrats move smoothly into their new dictator chairs. It's what they've always wanted to be. As long as the state revenue streams aren't too badly effected...

Your source would seem to indicate that the only fines that could be leveled would be if an employee is harmed. That is a far cry from his current order it would seem. I am not taking sides on the policy so much as I am questioning whether it is being handled legally. I am concerned about all the questionable "orders" given politicians use anything as a precedent to get what they want, particularly those in executive positions.

I get the impression that much of it will be pushed under the rug as everyone shrugs and say "It was an unprecedented pandemic and nobody knew what was going to happen" kind of deal. They always seem to find a way to skirt around the legalities.

They don't give a damn about doing things legally. Governments have usurped powers ever since there were governments. The founding fathers knew that, we're too damn smart to know that.
