Should the US share vaccine doses with Canada?

  1. Yes, it's the humanitarian thing to do (and/or some other reason for a yes)

  2. No, we need to take care of our own first (and/or some other reason for a yes)

  3. I am uncertain, or I have no opinion, or I don't care

This doesn’t make sense CF... The reason we’re asking those vaccine is because Pfizer European labs can’t deliver on their contract. We’re just asking Pfizer to deliver via their US lab the dose we were supposed to receive and have paid for. We’re not asking for charity, just for Pfizer to respect their delivery schedule or else it’ll mess up the ongoing vaccination of the most vulnerable.

Pfizer is delayed due to an upgrade in their Germany plant. So, once this is complete they will deliver. Meanwhile we could lend you some. If I understand correctly the Pfizer delay is not supposed to be longer than two weeks.

I know about the cause of the delay, the problem is that they keep lowering the amount of vaccine in the next shipment... it’s down to 30k doses with no more until the end of February which will impact those who received their first dose and won’t get the second one in the specified window.

Also, this reduction seems to be a strictly Canadian occurrence since they’re reporting that there’s no reduction for the European market...

I heard of European reductions too, but sorry, I don't follow this so closely; quite overwhelmed already with our own country. Our fellow poster @gnoib will be able to tell us about what is going on with the European effort, as well as our fellow poster @AlpinLuke .

There is a reduction. The expected supplies are not here. Pfeizer Biontech has justified this with works to improve the production capability of the firm in Belgium. As usual Italians carry on. We use this "pause" to give the second shot [we saved doses ... you know Italians ...].
P/B is ensuring that in a week the supplies will go back to the expected pace.

As an alternative we could accelerate with other vaccines already produces on large scale [the Russian one or the Chines one]. P/B simply risks to lose enormous contracts. We will see.

Thanks, so, my understanding of the situation is correct.
