    This in The Australian by a former Socialist, MICHAEL SHELLENBERGER

    On behalf of environmentalists everywhere, I would like to formally apologise for the climate scare we created over the past 30 years.
    Climate change is happening. It’s just not the end of the world. It’s not even our most serious environmental problem.

    I may seem like a strange person to be saying all of this. I have been a climate activist for 20 years and an environmentalist for 30.

    But as an energy expert asked by the US congress to provide objective testimony, and invited by the Intergovernmental Panel on
    Climate Change to serve as a reviewer of its next assessment report, I feel an obligation to apologise for how badly we environmentalists
    have misled the public.

    Here are some facts few people know: Humans are not causing a “sixth mass extinction”;

    The Amazon is not “the lungs of the world”;

    Climate change is not making natural disasters worse;

    Fires have declined 25 per cent around the world since 2003;

    The amount of land we use for meat — humankind’s biggest use of land — has declined by an area nearly as large as Alaska;

    The build-up of wood fuel and more houses near forests, not climate change, explain why there are more, and more dangerous,
    fires in Australia and California;

    Carbon emissions are declining in most rich nations and have been declining in Britain, Germany and France since the mid-1970s;

    The Netherlands became rich, not poor, while adapting to life below sea level;

    We produce 25 per cent more food than we need and food surpluses will continue to rise as the world gets hotter;

    Habitat loss and the direct killing of wild animals are bigger threats to species than climate change;

    Wood fuel is far worse for people and wildlife than fossil fuels;

    Preventing future pandemics requires more, not less, “industrial” agriculture.

    I know the above facts will sound like “climate denialism” to many people. But that just shows the power of climate alarmism. In reality, the
    above facts come from the best-available scientific studies, including those conducted by or accepted by the IPCC, the Food and Agriculture
    Organisation of the United Nations, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and other leading scientific bodies.

    Climate change alarmism is another hysteria that is not much different from COVID-19 or FLOYD-20. It is used by liberal politicians across the world to gain power.
    The reality is that humans do pollute, but poor countries are a lot worse than industrial countries, which means there is no reason to punish our own industries and let similar industries in poorer countries do whatever they want.
    We do need to watch for CO2, and technology that lowers these emissions does need to be promoted and encouraged.
    Our historic global temperature data is bad because we mix 100 years of accurate measurements with millions of years of estimates.

    That’s why I’m all for reduction in pollution but would not back punitive actions for those who don’t comply.

    It's happening - the world IS getting hotter. I say to the rural folk around me that we can
    trust the science on that, but distrust the cynical and exploitive politics.

    Even in the worst case scenario it will never get as hot as I am in Phoenix.

    I think people will be fine, we are.

    The only ones who ever referred to climate change as "the end of the world" have been the science deniers.

    So do you have anything other than just another flat-earth nut?

    I didn't think so....

    My, mumma, my, my, my, what a surprise!!!!! Now comes the shrill denial by all who so fervently worship at the altar of the Global Climate Crisis du jour. See, the vast majority of the American people are not involved in energy production. The vast majority of the American people have no idea how gasoline gets to the pump, how oil is used. They just use it.So when you have a slick salesman from progressivism saying, ‘All we have to do is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. We can save the planet, lower the temperature, stop the ocean from boiling, the rising of the oceans with more of this and less of that. And look, we’re willing to debate the particulars, but we’re not willing to debate the fact of climate change. How is it, that all the great minds in human history missed climate change as defined by the left? How did they miss it? How did Pastore miss it? How did Newton miss it? How did they all miss it? Only recently, only recently, with the advent of the Obama administration, actually, one [Democratic-led] administration earlier – maybe two, I should say – with the advent of the Clinton-Gore administration, did it suddenly become the case that we have what they used to call global warming. Now we have climate change. And before that, of course, in the 70s they called it global cooling.

    How do you know “never”?

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairbanks,_Alaska

    It can get up to 100 degrees pretty far north.
    And this includes only recorded temperatures.

    Well, Fairbanks is as far north as Siberia and actually has more water around and it got to 99 degrees over 100 years ago.
    That alone makes it extremely unlikely that 100F is the absolute record.

    I accidentally deleted my post

    The difference between climate and weather is that weather is a year here and there that gets particularly hot. Climate is year after year consistently breaking the record for hottest temperatures on record when the previous hottest happened to be the preceding year.

    And this happening again and again just about every single year for almost 2 decades.

    "Climate" is also the fact that this was predicted many decades ago. And that we know exactly WHY the temperatures keep rising.

    For sure, the earth is getting warmer. And it's scary.
    But this isn't the point this author makes - it's how we de-politicize the
    issue. Otherwise we can't effectively deal with the issue. And while we
    watch Global Warming how easily we neglect many other pressing issues
    also.

    Not sure what you mean. This author, and myself, fully accept human-centric
    global warming. My issue is how the Frankfurt School of Marxists seized upon
    the issue.

    The "heat" part of this argument doesn't rest upon the hottest part of the
    day, but the coldest - and how warm winters are becoming.

    You can tell where these people are really coming from when they trot out terms like Floyd20 and kung flu.
    Climate change deniers, flat earthers and anti-vaxxers are self-absorbed idiots who are doing our country and the world great harm.

    His "didn't think so" before your reply clarifies his unfair debating style. Just sayin'.

    True. But man won't let that sun's return. That's why
    it gets hotter and our winters get warmer and shorter.
