Ridicule is the best weapon against these fraudsters ... just heap ridicule on these people. I just can't help being dismayed and laughing out loud at all their followers believing this stuff!!! Kenneth Copeland according to a google search is worth anywhere between $300 - $760 million. Amazing.

It's funny but I never hear them speak tongues in Spanish --- a language I am fluent in. Anyway this crap is all lies and fairy tales. The sad part of it is that some of these preachers are deceiving themselves that they are God's representatives on earth.

Ummm...he was talking about the followers of Roman Gods of silver and gold that cannot speak or hear. Not Christian preachers. I don't agree with this understanding of speaking in tongues. It's people out of control which is ungodly. Speaking in tongues is the ability to understand each other of different languages.

 

Human are pack animals so we seek out the packs that align most with our beliefs. That's basic human instinct. Some people pretend so they can fit in.

• I know several atheists, including myself, that attend religious services just so we don't hear our parents' and grandparents' nagging us to death.

We are always going to face this issue in some aspect as long as we are judgmental and/or dismissive of others simply because we don't agree with them. There is NOBODY on this planet that will align 100% with our beliefs, morals and values. That's okay. Everyone has to walk the journey toward self-discovery and growth the way that works best for them. Growth can only happen when we move outside our comfort zones and for many people that's just too hard.

 

For some reason (with respect to accent) I am reminded of Boris and Natasha, or perhaps Borat. The people that believe in this stuff are idiots.

 

Why would you say that? While I think it's not what Paul intended "speaking in tongues" meant, who are they hurting if the people believe it's to their benefit? People spend money on lots of things that probably don't make a difference in their health or their personal economics. But, it makes them feel better about themselves and others, what's the problem? You waste your money on what you think is good and let others do the same as long as it isn't hurting anyone but themselves.

The problem is these people who reject critical thinking reproduce, brainwash and abuse children, serve on juries, and vote. They don't even know their own Bible.

If these preacher frauds were speaking in "tongues" per the so called Holly Spirit, native English speaking church members would be hearing English, native Spanish speakers would be hearing them in Spanish, etc. But of course what we all hear is random noise without the elements of language.

They are hurting themselves then. Why call them names? They believe they are not evildoers and are praying in tongues. The quote could be speaking of any sect of mainstream Christianity as well that say they preach in His name as well. What this says to me is that it takes more than just testifying of Christ. It takes ordinance work like proper baptism and giving the gift of the Holy Ghost from those with proper authority as well. It takes faith, hope and charity as well. Again, I don't agree with Pentacostals as well with their babblings.

 

No, they don't reject critical thinking. Why do you say that? Many are highly educated people, scientists, doctors and so on. No one is brainwashing children. They have the right to bring up their children in the way they believe. If your dictatorial belief that children should be taught only the way you yourself believe, then that would be brainwashing.
When I hear Asian languages spoken, it sounds like random noise without the elements of language. Because of this, they probably say the same things about English and Spanish...Again, I don't think this is what speaking in tongues means. It means that people of different languages can understand one another by the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Now, I've seen our Church leaders give talks in English in where people only speak Spanish and the people understood and were in tears of joy over the message given. It's a gift. I've heard prayers and testimonies in Spanish and I understood and felt the message in my heart.

Speaking in tongue is considered Heresy by mainstream Christianity. - and they are snake charmers .... reality .. not name calling ... for real .. and it is the same jeandra either way.. 300-400 million historical protestants (Mainstream Christianity) and 280 million Pentecostals which is a part of "Modern" Protestantism. So, which is mainstream and which isn't. I'd say they are close to being the same and getting closer.

 

Don't tell me no one is brainwashing children. I was punched in the face as a child for refusing to go to church. Also subjected to ridicule and peer pressure by a preacher as a child for asking too many questions.

The so called speaking in tongues has been scientifically studied and the sounds made (such as linked in the OP) are not a language. Any scientist who thinks the OP links represent a language has rejected both science and critical thinking. Critical thinking of course means both questioning and forming opinions based on facts and logic, not appeals made to emotion, theatre, etc.

 

Train up a child in the ways of the Lord and they will not depart. And, if they do, they will return again. Maybe not the way thought of, but still return. If you think that every parent punches their children in the face, you are sadly mistaken. Yes, physical abuse happens. But, to say that means brainwashing? No. And, what do you mean "child?" 5 years old or 13 years old? Big difference. Still shouldn't punch the kids. But, certainly, if you live in your parents home, you do what they ask. Going to church wasn't going to hurt you. You freely partook of their food and shelter. So, stop complaining. Don't like it, when you get older, leave. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. Good grief! Thankless children out there.
I wasn't there to decide if you were being ridiculed or asking too many boneheaded questions. So, I can't judge your statement without more information. Just sounds like a typical ungrateful teenager to me.

Pentacostals are not mainstream by any stretch of the imagination... they are to the far extreme of the Protestant spectrum .. You are way off the chart.
