They are indeed. They can raise their own money without federal government.

Depends on what the bribe is about. It wants compliance.

You said that before. We disagree. As I said it shoudl be illegal for federal funds to be used to send to state and local governments and businesses unless they are buying something. Corruption isn't limited to cash, by the way. It is mostly about power in government. It is mostly about money in the private sector.

It is not normal but, in the case of federal government, it is systemic. All governments have corruption problems.

It is both legal and corrupt.

If you knew what you were talking about I wouldn't have to ask to explain.

As a matter of fact, you would have given examples of this.... "corruption" you speak of, by which representatives are supposed to be "corrupt" because they do the job they were elected to do. You don't. So that's that...

Clearly you are just repeating the talking point that corrupt politicians want you to repeat. i.e. "All politicians are corrupt. Therefore, it's ok that my favorite politician is corrupt"

I didn't say all politicians are corrupt. I said the corrupt environment in federal government corrupts politicians. Has your favorite politician never told a lie in public?

"President Donald Trump is trying hard to sell his flurry of executive actions over the weekend that fall short both of what he said they’d do and what Congress was trying to achieve in a COVID-19 relief package.

After signing the actions at a press conference-campaign rally hybrid at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey on Saturday, Trump has been suggesting that Democrats are itching to return to the negotiating table.

“The Democrats have called,” Trump said from the airport at Morristown, New Jersey on Sunday night. “They’d like to get together. And we say if it’s not a waste of time, we’ll do it.”
    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-democrats-executive-actions-covid-relief

Trump views Dem's willingness to negotiate as weakness. Dem's view the willingness to negotiate as a necessity to help struggling Americans. Trump doesn't understand that point of view as he sees the world thru the lens of what's good for Don.

They can provide relief for free. Just open the businesses and let people decide for themselves if they want to patronize them.

Telling a lie is not what determines corruption (unless it's perjury). Trump's average 18 lies per day indicates that he has mental problems, but that's not the reason why we know he's corrupt. We know he's corrupt because of his illegal actions to benefit himself even at the expense of the people.

I wasn't talking about Trump. I was talking about the federal government in general. But thanks anyway.

That's one. I explain that it's politicians who are corrupt. You obfuscate by deflecting to generalizations: it's politicians, it's the political environment, it's the federal government, ... anything to deflect from directly addressing the fact that politicians who lie and politicians who are corrupt are individuals. And that they are the ones we need to hold accountable. It's Trump, it's Barr, it's Mitch, ... let's call corrupt people by name.

I'm still trying to think of one thing the Democratic House has done to improve the lives of ordinary Americans.

Google "Heroes Act" (Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act). You'll be surprised.

    WTF?

How would capping the amount of welfare that Trump gave to the rich in 2018 be "tax breaks for the rich"?

Do you not understand what SALT is? Originally it was unlimited. There was no cap on the amount that could be deducted from Federal Income taxes. The Trump tax cut bill put a $10,000 cap on it, essentially saving the deduction for the middle class and lower- a genuine tax increase on the rich.

Now the Democrats want to remove the cap to give the rich back their tax deduction.

Your response to this was interesting. Thank you. I will keep that in mind for future discussions.

First of all, I misspoke. Yes. The cap was removed in 2018. But the extra income was used to give billionaires more welfare.

OK now I'm really confused. You want to restore tax breaks to the rich because the government is using that extra income to put billionaires on welfare?

It was designed to confuse. Billionaires receive their welfare, but the states that Trump hates receive less tax revenue. These states now need those funds to deal with coronavirus.

My recommendation is that you quit while you're behind. You've basically gotten nothing correct in this thread.

Isn't it amazing that even when that's the case, you can't rebut anything?

You've not given me anything to rebut. You don't even understand what SALT is. Although I've no doubt that if you did understand it, it wouldn't matter. If Shumer and Pelosi decide they need tax cuts for the rich, you'll be right there defending them.

Of course I don't. I never have. That's what research accomplishes: it leaves nothing to be rebutted. But I give you credit for trying. Again and again... But don't give up. You might find something one day.

As for SALT caps. I have no idea what surprises you. Democrats have been against that since the beginning. And Trump and Republicans in favor (which should have given you a clue)

I kinda perceive that you have some weird notion that I (or left wingers) favor everything that hurts the rich. I've heard that on Hannity and other wingnut media. They tell you that left wingers want to do everything they can to "punish" (their words) rich people. And you believed them?.... Huh... Imagine that....
