It’s interesting that you brought up Nixon. There were articles of impeachment being prepared to impeach him. He resigned and once he was no longer the sitting president that ended the possibility of his impeachment. That is a precedent set pertaining directly to this issue.

Think of it like this: the Declaration of Independence began a revolution; the Constitution ended one and we've lived under the latter for 200+ years.

Our military is ordered by the Constitution to REMOVE any illegitimate government. I believe they will do so, and soon. No, he resigned so he didn't have the ignominy of a senate trial. That was the deal. Trump didn't resign and precedent is that an official can be tried after leaving office.

And quite the show its going to be. I suspect his trial will be his last shot at reality tv. he's toast and rightly so, all the sweeter because he did it entirely by hissownself.

 

Nixon was no longer the POTUS, so the process stopped. There was no reason to carry on.
