Even if Trump and succeed with this plot, it still wouldn't have stopped Biden from being inaugurated, so one wonders why didn't the lawyer Trump wanted to replace the acting AG with, who was Jeffrey Clark, why didn't this lawyer advise Trump of this? -- unless, of course, he's but another one of those witless lawyers on par with other incompetent lawyers and advisors Trump has surrounded himself with. But, as I understand this, it's more arrows in the impeachment quiver, since, as I understand it, the articles of impeachment include something along this line, as I think this plot was illegal, not to mention that the GA AG is investigating Trump for illegal activity in the GA elections. Trump is in all sorts of legal jeopardy, and he's being pursued civilly, as well.

I'm also wondering of Barr was aware of this scheme and perhaps it was a bridge too far, another reason why he left?

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/22/us/politics/jeffrey-clark-trump-justice-department-election.html

The Justice Department’s top leaders listened in stunned silence this month: One of their peers, they were told, had devised a plan with President Donald J. Trump to oust Jeffrey A. Rosen as acting attorney general and wield the department’s power to force Georgia state lawmakers to overturn its presidential election results.

The unassuming lawyer who worked on the plan, Jeffrey Clark, had been devising ways to cast doubt on the election results and to bolster Mr. Trump’s continuing legal battles and the pressure on Georgia politicians. Because Mr. Rosen had refused the president’s entreaties to carry out those plans, Mr. Trump was about to decide whether to fire Mr. Rosen and replace him with Mr. Clark.

The department officials, convened on a conference call, then asked each other: What will you do if Mr. Rosen is dismissed?

The answer was unanimous. They would resign.

Their informal pact ultimately helped persuade Mr. Trump to keep Mr. Rosen in place, calculating that a furor over mass resignations at the top of the Justice Department would eclipse any attention on his baseless accusations of voter fraud. Mr. Trump’s decision came only after Mr. Rosen and Mr. Clark made their competing cases to him in a bizarre White House meeting that two officials compared with an episode of Mr. Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice,” albeit one that could prompt a constitutional crisis.

Sadly if that happened 95% of republicans would say they’re just deep state liberals and hes allowed to use the DOJ to steal an election.

Sadly true. There were no real Republican left to stop the attempted coup.

We are only left to wonder, how many more stories of impeachable conduct are going to keep coming out of the Trump era.

"Said to have" aka conspiracy theory that has no proof to accompany it. I remarked earlier that this sort garbage was going to continue into the Biden Presidency. The era of TDS inflated the job market for hacky bloggers who think they're journalists. Now that its over these people are scrambling to edge out their peers as the layoffs will soon begin.

As many as they can fabricate since leftists will accept every single one of them based on headline alone, and because Pres Biden is going to need a lot of cover.

At least left wing conspiracy theories are believable. For the last 2 months, Trumpers were duped into believing counties had 130% voter turnout lol...a claim that is so easily disprovable and forged ballots for Biden but forgot to fill in bubbles for the other races. Then I remember the party also believes in Q and that a well connected government official posted on parler of all sites to disseminate top secret information.

Ahh, the old 'they are making **** up" argument, NYT is 'fake news'

The story names names, if it is made up, we'll hear from the people in the story.

Besides, why would anyone make up a story that has a plot whose outcome cannot achieve the stated objective?

You'd think if they were going to manufacture a story, it would be one that is believable.

that this story is insane is proof it is authentic, because, if someone didn't know who Trump is, such as story couldn't have/wouldn't have been imagined.

It's obvious you haven't done any homework, or paid even a modicum of attention to the story, let alone read the story, or consider who wrote the story.

In short, your rebuttal doesn't rise above table pounding.

I realize that most of the Trump crowd is used to being fed stories that appear sensational, but not necessaily substantive or even true. That’s the way of right wing media.

And so, when confronted with a story like this, it seems only natural for the reactionary right wings and Trump apologists to try and attack it by accusing the Times and the reporters of indulging in the kind of sensational and unprofessional behavior that they find so acceptable from places like OAN, NewsMax or Fox.

Of course the OP’s attempt to minimize the story by misleadingly referring to it as just a “headline”,. is typical too. It’s a pattern repeated over and over again.

Trumpsters know as well as everyone else does, that there’s a lot more where this came from. When they start looking at the behavior of Trump’s flunkies throughout the epic malfeasance and corruption of the Trump era, you’ll be kept busy parroting whatever nonsense you see on MeWe or on the trash blog TV.

As a Trumpster, you’ve been both familiar and an enthusiastic supporter of “jacky blogggers” who call themselves journalists on trash sites like NewsMax, Gateway Pundit, Breitbart and the like.

If it isn’t surrounded with trashy celebrity stories and clickbait, I doubt that a Trumpster would actually recognize a legitimate newspaper (the ones with more words than pictures).

And as the last thirty years and the last three weeks have decisively proven, they don’t care.

Well they must go after Trump as hard as they can. They can't have an outsider in the White House that stands in their way. So we have yet another made up phony baloney charge.....no surprise.

So Trump is out of office with absolutely no power and all you guys want to do is create more Trump threads. Can you show some mercy and post some stuff the rest of us are interested in? That would include ANYTHING other than Trump. Are you capable of that?

If the GA SOS had not recorded the phone call and just stated what had happened - the Trump supporters would have said that that was fabricated

Sounds to me as though the prosecution has two new witnesses - Clarke and Rosen. Then we will know if it was 'said to have' happened or not.

    The meeting happened.

Clark told the Times that their account had inaccuracies but did not give specifics. He said, “Senior Justice Department lawyers, not uncommonly, provide legal advice to the White House as part of our duties. All my official communications were consistent with law.”

If it were a fabrication, Clark would have used stronger language than "inaccuracies."

Trump attacked Barr for not helping him steal the election and is on tape pressuring Georgia to find to do the same. This story is 100% consistent with how he spent his last months in office.

Mercy? Are you kidding? He's put America through four years of pure hell, trolling the opposition daily, lying to the teeth on everything, abusing the power, violating his oath of office, talking down to people, extolling the virtues of dictators while impugning the integrity of our institutions and our institution's executives, virtually defecating on the office of the presidency -- lowering to a petty level, lowering America in the eyes of the world, being a joke among world leaders, engaging in tit for tats, hiring and firing more people than any president in history, keeping the bad and getting rid of the good, destroying the separation of powers --- using the DOJ as his private legal firm, pardoning war criminals, he vetoed the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act, put millions in limbo by threatening to veto coronavirus relief, his jarring fights with reporters during coronavirus briefings alienated rather than united us, his reluctance to embrace masks cost lives, he failed to distribute more than half the available doses of vaccine, he discussed imposing martial law at an Oval Office meeting, he emasculated the world wide infrastructure pandemic response team and destroyed the accompanying report on how to implement it, He said the Soviet Union was right to invade Afghanistan and congratulated China on the 70th anniversary of the Communist takeover, he used his emergency authority to circumvent Congress on the border wall, he asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden and Joe Biden in order to help his reelection campaign, invited the Taliban to Camp David, he gave Turkey a green light to invade Syria and attack our Kurdish allies, he committed clear acts of crime, a number of acts which amount to election fraud, accusing democrats of the very thing he is guilty of, and all the while playing the victim, when, in truth America is the victim, OF HIM, and I could go on, I mean, I've only scratched the surface, but, why bother?

No mercy, sorry, the man needs to be impeached, and then he needs to be prosecuted.

Quite a remarkable post. I do need a short break, though. A little exhausting. Perfect.
