First the Coronavirus now this. What can be done to deal with this plague? Will this lead to mass starvation:
It's interesting how locusts (that is, grasshoppers that swarm) no longer exist in North America. The best guess as to why is that farmers, individually but unintentionally combining into a group effort, wiped them out by plowing up their hatching sites. The locust population required a certain large critical mass to sustain itself, and when it went below that, that species of locust went extinct.
According to the article, agricultural scientists know how to get rid of the locusts. But the wars make it too dangerous for planes to spray the pesticides that kill and/or prevent the locusts from reproducing.
