Of course it is a good deal because what you pay yearly is not much and you get that money back several times over, from not paying shipping fees, so the Prime Video part is just an added bonus. Therefore it's not like other video-only services where you need to see if the video content is worth the fee. There are other perks too, like Kindle Edition free books every month.

I don't know if you shop a lot with Amazon or not. I do, and it has increased in this time of COVID-19, so having the free shipping saves me a lot of money.

I mean now the smallest thing, I check to see if it's on Amazon. For example, I ran out of mosquito repellent torch fluid for my backyard, and was bitten three times. So, I thought "I'll have to go to Lowes and get some more before the weekend." Then I thought, "oh, maybe Amazon has it." They do. So instead of driving to Lowes and risking COVID-19 exposure there with all sorts of non-mask-wearing contractors roaming around, I simply ordered it through Amazon Prime, and what would normally have had some hefty shipping fees because a gallon of the stuff is heavy, cost $0 in shipping with Prime, and got here before the weekend, so I wasn't bitten again...

I swear I don't work for Bezos and don't get any kickback from saying it here... but yes, I love Amazon Prime.

As for video content, some good stuff they have is not on Netflix, and given that it is basically free due to the shipping savings, It's all good.

For example, The Man in the High Castle is indeed a spectacular series... I forgot to mention it before, but yes, it's one of my favorites, and it is based on a great sci-fi novel by Philip K. Dick, one of my favorite sci-fi actors. Amazon did a very good job with it, well acted, well filmed, great story, suspenseful, very captivating.

Thanks so much for taking the time to lay it all out. I am an avid reader and love my Kindle. I made a mistake and didn't transfer my downloaded books when I upgraded. I went to download them again and have a little over 17,000 (not a type) e-books! Amazon doesn't make it easy as I can only download 200 at a time. I'm still trying to figure out a solution on that one.

I feel like I've watched all there is to see on Netflix. I love Netflix but I'm sure I'm not the only one running out of stuff to watch during the pandemic. Our local libraries are closed for inside visits but we can still borrow items (they bring them to the back of the vehicle for contactless pick-ups) so I've been binge watching from there too.

I am definitely going to look into Prime this weekend. Thanks again!

Serial TV shows, man, I've been absolutely addicted to these.

I have many on DVD. Lots and lots of DVDs.

The original Star Trek - currently available on Netflix. So many excellent episodes from when I was a kid and I still love 'em. I might watch this one again next, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphosis_(Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series)

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Black and white originals are so freaking cold war. Robert Duvall as the evil alien threatening to release botulism on the entire planet. Just freaking bizzare. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057798/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_122

Fast forward to the modern era of serial TV shows gets me to my first binge series, Nip/Tuck.

Nip/Tuck and Breaking Bad. Man, these shows are just amazingly over-the-top.

True Blood, super fun to watch.

Game of Thrones - wtf? Seriously, wtf? Amazing and completely ****ed simultaneously....

Shameless on Showtime - Oh man, some of the most hilarious scenes I've ever seen.

On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Showtime series about Amway / Network One type stuff. Quite Amusing.

    Better Call Saul

    Black Mirror

    Jack Ryan

    Band of Brothers

    Generation Kill

    Charmed -
    Hey, they were hot, ok?

My friends and co-workers keep recommending a German tv show called "Dark". I plan on giving it a try when I have some time.

I just binge-watched The Big Heist on Netflix. Pretty entertaining, well-acted, based on real events, apparently very close to the real events although they warn us that they took some liberties with the story. It's about the biggest heist ever performed, all countries considered. It happened in Colombia and the thieves took the equivalent, today, of 41 million dollars from a bank. 8 out of 10. It's a mini-series with six episodes, about 40 minutes each.

I'm almost embarrassed to say this (just almost), but on Netflix Teenage Bounty Hunters dropped a few days ago and I'm hooked. Probably the best non SF/Fantasy show I've seen this year.

And yes, the name is exactly what the show is about.

The original title was Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters so they've already done a self own on that one!

I binge-watched Teenage Bounty Hunters. Moderately funny. Politically incorrect which makes it funnier. Might upset Christians. Charming leading actresses that have phenomenal chemistry. Overall, 7 out of 10.

I finished watching "White Lies." It is long, given that each episode is almost a full-feature length. There are ten episodes. I very much liked it. The thing is, you have to get past the fact that no characters are good people. Some are less evil than others, some are less twisted than others, but they all have rather severe flaws. If you don't mind watching a show that features a bunch of evil selfish people and a bunch of misfits, it's a show for you. I don't understand some of the negative reviews because the whole thing is quite entertaining, well narrated, well acted, and shot in beautiful locations. There are some funny moments, some over-the-top moments, a lot of sex and nudity (after all, it depicts life in Ibiza, Spain), but most of all, it's dramatic and poignant. I really liked this one so I grant it a score of 9 out of 10.

Now I'm watching "Away", the new sci-fi series from Netflix about the first manned mission to Mars. I'm not enjoying it as much. In 4 full episodes there was ONE moment of suspense. It's rather slow with endless descriptions of the psychological aspects of characters (like the astronaut's daughter and husband who are left behind on Earth - I'm getting tired of the teenage drama about her daughter). So it's more family drama and intrigue among the astronauts and the ground control politics, than sci-fi. For now I'm granting only a 6 out of 10. Predictably, action and suspense might increase once the spaceship gets to Mars, so, we'll see.

I finished watching Away, and like I expected, there's been a bit more action as they approach Mars. So, the last couple of episodes weren't as boring as the first few, so I'm upgrading the score to 7.5 out of 10. It's watchable. No masterpiece, has a number of shortcomings, but I don't regret having watched it.

So, watch the first episode to get to know the characters and then skip to E6 or 7?

Not a bad idea. But there is one other part you would want to watch. I don't remember in which episode there is the glitch with the solar panel, that part was pretty neat. It was at some point between episodes 2 and 4.

It's a shame when they turn sci-fi into a soap opera.

Yes. But the last two chapters, although still heavy in soap opera, do get a bit more sci-fi-ish.

Matching tv tastes w/ others seems a crap-shoot, to me, but I'll give you my 2ยข. For reference, I much enjoyed the FIRST season of FARGO, & think Billy Bob Thornton knocked it out of the park w/ his character, though I was not crazy about the ending (regarding where things ended up w/ the sheriff's family) as that dispelled any illusion that the story was, even loosely, based on a true story. I think I got thru 2 episodes of the next season before I called it quits; it really had seemed like it could only be a single-season ride, at that level. One other season I tuned in for maybe half an hour & had enough; the ads for the latest season look hokey, to me, but everyone's entitled to their own cup of tea.

In a somewhat similar vein, though, The FIRST season (once again) of PREACHER was highly entertaining, a pleasing mix of excitement, suspense, off-beat humor, & bizarre fantasy. My history w/ the rest of the series mirrors, pretty exactly, my experience w/ FARGO.

A show I found interesting & engaging that only lasted a single season (as far as I know, because I only watch what's on basic cable tv) was PUBLIC MORALS. It was a police drama-- not typically my thing-- but was very much a period-piece, set in New York City in like the very early 60s, if I remember accurately. I guess you might think of it as a blue collar Mad Men, about plainclothes police detectives of the NYC Police, "Dept. of Public Morals," (which was an actual thing), though their vibe was less like the advertising guys & more like Goodfellas. And they were more family-men than swingers. And more Irish. So maybe not all that that much like Madmen. But I was looking fwd to that 2nd season that never came. The show had been done on a small budget, the brainchild & pet project of this one actor who had to do so much of it himself, but probably preferred it that way, whose name escapes me at the moment (I'd check it but my phone is crap &, "saving," my draft is no guarantee I won't have to start this post again from scratch). I'd never been a fan of his before this--- you must've seen him, he'd been the popular choice, in his younger days, when a movie wanted a baby-faced, Irish man for the male love-interest-- but I was very impressed w/ the overall quality of everything from the script to the characters to the authentic feel of the time & place.

No time for a segue, here, Better Call Saul is SLOW. But hey, FARGO takes its own, sweet time as well, so that might not bother you. But at the end of every episode, I felt like ultimately, from the perspective of overall plot progression, nothing much had really changed. I made it through the first season, but that was enough for me.

I'd seen, & liked, Breaking Bad, which was much more gripping & entangling for one's sympathies but, again, I only saw about a season or so worth's of episodes, though this time it was a matter of opportunity. Still, when a show is on that long, it's likely to go through phases, so I'll let someone else give its full review.

Quick question: did you ever see THE SHIELD? I was able to catch a good couple of seasons of that & it was a real adrenaline-pumper. Very exciting, full of well-drawn characters, & myriad compelling, intertwining plot-lines. Rather addictive.

Lastly, though it doesn't neces-sarily fit w/ the theme of the other shows I've listed, except that I can recommend just one season of it, is SEARCH PARTY. The 1st season, I think, is a bust-- I'd abandoned it after 2 episodes-- & totally unnecessary to enjoying season 2 (which I got caught up in just from catching an unplanned peek while passing through), which begins immediately as this group of friends has to deal w/ the dead body of someone that had just been accidently killed by one of them. Believe me, you'll be up to speed from the get-go. And I ended up going back to watch season 1 to see where it had turned that corner: turned out to be the first show of season 2. This is definitely a comedy, but a dark & dramatic one. Usually when a review says that, it means it's not funny; but this is the exception, as long as you're partial to quirky humor. The gay male member of the quartet is just an hilarious mess. Again, I never saw a season 3, meaning I may have the ability to curse programs by liking them, or else that SEARCH PARTY found a friendlier home on one of the pay-platforms (is that the right terminology, for like HBO?)

I have now adopted the word 'amazoning' as a verb. Like you, I buy a lot from/through them. And because I'm a prime member, I just signed up for Prime TV exclusively so I could watch Man in the High Castle. I also really enjoyed Hollywood. But other than that, I found it to be just okay.

    "Yellowstone"

It's in between seasons right now, but it's a great series. Kevin Costner plays the modern day patriarch of a family that owns a huge cattle ranch in Montana. The story revolves around his struggles to preserve the ranch for posterity and keep it out of the hands of those who would take it from him. Great supporting cast, lots of drama, intrigue, and violence.
