The bigger the gaming industry gets, the bigger of a target it becomes for regulation.

The only argument in video game regulation that has any merit is attempting to protect children from adult content- overt violence and sexuality. That doesn't take a lot of regulation. If it has sex, nudity, blood or murder, require an ID to purchase. Done.

If an adult wants to buy and play a game where they can simulate violent, disgusting or immoral behavior, the market will decide whether such a game thrives or fades and whether anyone else tries to sell something similar. At what point was it decided that there was an authority on what fiction we could participate in? Where does this authority come from? How is this anything but the legislation and enforcement of morality?

It’s a free speech issue. It amazes me that the typical proponents of restricting this are the neo-cons. Those that cheer for freedom in America and for “small government” yet whenever they’re personal ethics feel conflicted they support big brother to enforce they’re opinions. They don’t truly want a free society, just they’re own.

No, "progressives" gave the government the power to regulate video games. Over the past 100+ years, progs have expanded govt power to the point the govt can reach into every aspect of your life and every aspect of business activity.

Plenty good tax money to be made by deploying the arcane methods of the regulatory trade.

Mostly they just took it through legislative action and corrupting the judiciary.

True, some power grabs were voted on, but they people voted for Trojan Horses. The "progressives" lied. For one example, social security. It was sold to the American people as a very small tax as a safety net to help those few old people who could no longer work, did not have the help of extended family and could not support themselves. The same for the income tax.

The progs were subtle and small at first but as they gained power they grew bold.

Look at obamacare. It was rammed through on parliamentary gimmicks. A majority of people opposed it. Scott Brown ran for the Senate seat vacated by ted kennedy, Browns campaign slogan was "I'll be the 41st vote not the 60th" meaning he would vote against obamacare and stop it. Brown won and the democRats played back room games to avoid the final Senate vote.
