Yup, Vaughan and Santana for me. I was OD'ing on 2, 4 way hits of organic mescaline in 1970, and Santana's guitar/band carried me safely thru. My favorite Vaughan/Double Trouble songs are Cold Shot, Texas Flood and Pride And Joy.

My personal favorite, Anson Funderburgh on guitar, Sam Myers(RIP) on vocals, Wes Starr on Drums, John Street on Keyboards, and yours truly on bass. Lucerne Switzerland November 2004. Great festival and great people.

Well, to many country music fans, a giant on the guitar was this guy...and here he had some help.

A couple years ago when back home I stopped down to Galway City to go to their annual fall arts festival (Galway Oyster Festival). When in Galway, I have several places I go to hear music, one being the Quays. While immersed in conversation with old friends as I realized I was hearing a song from deep purple recast in renaissance style and began to listen more intently thinking it was interesting. It took a bit, but then I realized I was listening to Richie Blackmore and Candice Night on the stage... Blackmore’s Night was the band.

While a number of artists I like have been mentioned, one I always thought amazing in the Blues genre, was Lightnin’ Hopkins. His ancient worn guitar and his style would take you to a different time and place, a smoke filled backwater, drinking hole of forgotten sound.

One that had amazing potential, but often overlooked, Eddie Hazel.... give a listen, amazing emotion in that guitar.

A couple of other under rated guitarists, Brian May and Prince.

I was fortunate many years ago to see a an impromptu invite by B.B.King extended to Frank Zappa to play together at Milwaukee’s Summerfest. It was an amazing session with two greats.

I'm into gypsy jazz lately. I could name 10 gypsy players that make me want to give up, but Stefan Joscho (German) has a delightful, short and simplified (believe it or not ) version of Lulu Swing that I just discovered yesterday. Jimmy Rosenberg was ... god, don't even get me started on Jimmy.

Anyway, I defy you not to like this:

Obviously that is WAY watered down for his students to copy, but you really don't want a full bore, an unadulterated, 100 proof dose of Stefan (or Bereli Lagrene, or Stochelo Rosenberg, or Damjan Petjinoski, to name a few), or you'll be depressed.
