Moment ago this showed up on FOX. If you think all FOX is ... is politics, check them out. This is a tragedy. This 21 year old woman ruined a part of her life she can't recover. A lot of people thank nature for making them blind. She did it herself. She squished her own eyes.

Care to tell us all if you know a similar tragic story? This takes the cake for me on such things like this. Some ask why have the war on Drugs. I ask why not?

do you consider her 'lucky' that she survived... you did put this in the survival thread.

is one 'lucky' to have survived a heart attack, a shark attack, airline crash, if so, when did they begin to get 'lucky' considering it wasn't 'lucky' to be in that situation to begin with...

The first time you buy some unknown chemical concoction off the street your destiny may change for ever, or it could be from another buy down the line.

It's going through the looking glass into the unknown. Maybe everything will always be okay. But you don't know that.

Selecting a proper category was not easy. Why are you essentially attacking me? All you had to do is pass on by.

I did not plan to give my opinion as to her luck or lack of luck. She clearly has a lot harder time surviving blind than sighted.

Lil Mike, so far as I recall, we have never got into arguments.

It is not up to me to give you my point since you may not share my point. It is a tragic survival story. Survival as a blind girl. Forever not going to have her eyes she was born with.

'Tainted methamphetamine' is the result of the war on drugs. If meth were legal, it would be regulated and un'tainted' because there would be no economic incentive for amateur chemists to make it from household cleaners and industrial waste. Additionally, if it were legal, we could tax the F out of it (and it would still be cheaper than the shiz on the street) and use that revenue to educate folks on what this crap can do to their minds and bodies. The 1 hour tutorial we allocate for drug awareness in health class aint cutting it (obviously), and adult addicts would be a great source of revenue for the increased funding to more properly educate our children on how bad these things are.

This poor women chose to do drugs and will live with the consequences of her bad decision, but I highly doubt she made that decision from an adequately informed and educated position.

I fully understand your point of view. I am 80 and please imagine during my life what my views have looked like.

At 15 drugs scared me. After that i simply refused to use them since i did not see how they could help me. Around age 25 I started smoking. After 21 I started to drink. Around age 40 I bought good pot and smoked that. The miracle of well being due to drugs simply did not ever happen.

I see drugs in ways as we do a person walking down a railroad track. They were told the train has to show up at a point and it will deliver them enormous harm. But they believe bullshit told to them by others. Drugs do not improve your life.

"Use this drug and it will make you feel great."

Well, since drugs mess up your mind, your stupefied mind thinks it is doing better.

But if skilled professionals measure your life quality, they do not see any improvement at all. They are better able to judge such improvement than you are. Such as tests on drivers by the police. The driver is happy as a clam to risk his and others lives on the road and the cop measures the alcohol and puts the driver in jail. Not because the cop is anti drinking, but the cop is anti the combination of both drinking and driving.

You want to enhance the ability of a person to get **** faced. I prefer other solutions. What can you offer that does not cost the person his mind or perhaps his life?

Just in case your confusing me for a stoner... I drink a six pack of beer a week, smoke the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes but additive-free, wonderful smelling pipe tobacco a week (a bit more if I'm working a lot) and I have a cup of coffee every day (two if I'm working long hours). I've smoked weed several times over the years, and hated it every time. I don't plan on trying it again.

I know a lot of folks who smoke weed regularly, and most of them are useless stoners. A few of them are well rounded, emotionally stable, hard working people because of it. Only a few.

For the most part, I hate drugs. I see them as detrimental to health and prosperity, with rare exception. But its not up to me or the state to decide that for anyone else. Its an individual choice. There's no difference between making a drug illegal to protect people from themselves and making video games, cheeseburgers or compulsive jogging illegal for the same reason. If we don't have the right to make the wrong decision, we don't have the right to make any decision at all.

Outside of the ideological argument, what sense does it make to 'save' people from their drug habit by imprisoning them for it? We ruin there lives to save them from drugs...

And then there's the corruption that we create in the black market. By criminalizing folks who would sell clean products to law abiding citizens in legitimate storefronts while paying taxes and participating in civilized society, we empower those who will sell tainted products in back alleys to people who will steal from -or murder- you for their fix. That market only exists because we created it by making the drugs illegal, and all other black markets -illegal weapons, human trafficking, etc- are made stronger by adding drugs to the list of things they -and only they- can profit from. We are giving the worst kinds of people a monopoly in a market.

it wasn't an attack on you, it was a querry into lucky... why is it, that so many take it personnal when they're quoted, the only reason you were quoted was to keep my response in context, why? because usually 30+ posts come up by the time i hit 'post reply'...

    Let's examine your words.

Given I had not mentioned luck, what made you ask me that question? And why did you bring up where I located my post? Again, the drill was over a comment I had not made. It made me believe your purpose was not that at all, but some other agenda. It is precisely the sort of stuff I read said to me by Democrats to be blunt with you.

I thoroughly support the above form of discussion or argument. It contains my own thoughts over these past 80 years. I do not disagree at all. I am not in favor of those dispensing harm receiving profits or benefits. Drugs clearly harm. The idea a harm should be taxed gives the message now it is just fine. If a person harvests his or her own harmful drug, at least it was their sole choice. But to be supplied for a tax or a profit, gives benefit to the party doing the harm but who may not himself be harmed if he wisely refuses to use his own drugs.

My love of freedom, nay my delight with freedom says to me, it is not my life, and it is their life, hands off. I value hands off. I do not value tax for that reason too.

I suppose one way to see it is this. Say you know a person intends to use the bullets you sell them and tax them on to kill himself. i mean he says to you, sell me the bullets i will use to kill myself. Do you sell him the product because it is taxed and you made the bullets correctly and made a profit? At a point the moral person tries to do no harm. So when a person passes a law to harm others, such as they get clean excellent drugs, they do them harm.

Question is hands off or harm them by law?

When i voted to legalize MJ here in CA, it was a serious problem for me. i voted to legalize that drug. That was years back and I was voting for their freedom knowing it also included delivering to them harm. Tough decision.

I once smoked pipes. I once had a nice pipe collection. Cigars were also a weakness for me. I quit all of that by 1986. I am drinking coffee this moment. I do not think it harms humans. I had a bottle of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale yesterday and who knows about today.

I or you can't stop all harm to all others. We can think it over though.

I get that. You feel that by using infrastructure paid for by drug revenues, you're supporting harmful habits (right?). Thats a legitimate concern. Im pro-choice, but I won't support subsiding abortions for the same reason- I want nothing to do with it.

I guess we'll just have to work it out at the polls.

The DEVIL, or similar, that lived at my childhood home, was friends with an even moar evil character. HE took some of the OLEANDER leave, and smoked it. He died of that. Just to tell a happy story of bad drug. The DOSE, of oleander compared to the death dose, is almost nill.

One of the truly excellent things that happens at FOX news is how fair and balanced they are.

Say you want to see FOX raise hell with republicans. They do that daily. Say you want to see them raise hell with Democrats. That too, done. Say you want to hear more than one MSM view or talking points, seek them on FOX. I have no clue how Democrats can manage to miss Shepard Smith or Juan Williams or the others who fight hard for Democrats. Are they truly blind or what?

I have noticed how even on MSM they hire great looking women. FOX led the way and they follow.

Cecilia Vega is hot. So are the local woman on the MSM here in the SF Bay area.

Yes, I paid my share by voting for two major issues. Drugs in CA to be legal and civil unions for homosexuals. I got burned by the homosexuals. I learned a valuable lesson.

In the case of many DOA's they began with something much less risky. No matter what the first dose is or how far back it was in their personal history, they do not know what the end will be.

I've been following her story for quite awhile.

I think it belongs here because she survived it and not physically but emotionally.

It also wasn't some tragic accident or a failed suicide attempt, it was because of drugs so the guilt pressed upon her after realizing what she had done must have been even more intense.

Yet she seems to have accepted it.

While I do not feel sorry for her, she did this to herself after all, I can look at the aftermath and how she has handled that.

I think anyone could find inspiration in just the ability to accept and move on and work with the best that you have left.

For her part, Muthart says that she has embraced her blindness. “If you don’t, you can never be happy. Accept it, analyze it and let yourself feel what you feel. I cry. Not a lot, but I bottle it up and then let it out.”

By this time next year she wants to have undergone an eye surgery to be fitted with prosthetics, moved in with a roommate, and learned to be a mother to her child as a blind woman. Long term, she envisions herself as a motivational speaker or a musician. She’d like to write a book, maybe. However, she has largely given up her childhood dream of becoming a marine biologist.

“The part I would’ve enjoyed most about that” — watching orcas and dolphins slice through the water — “is gone now,” she says

I feel sorry for her also, but there's a lesson in this:

Take a harsh chemical just once that changes brain structure and you really do not know what this will cause you to do to others and yourself in the future.

I am certainly no shrink but I could almost guarantee you that she also had other issues going on.

Having a child at 18 and not raising it I'm sure played a role and the fact that she was having religious delusions while intoxicated means that her mind was definitely going on about something.

Having the belief that you need to rip out your eyes to save the world or whatever it was that she was thinking about probably would indicate some sort of mental problem so the drugs probably were not the only cause for this.

She has gotten mental treatment, obviously, since this occurred so although she had definitely made her life harder in some ways we can hope that it was her rock bottom and she got the help she needed to ultimately be a successful mother and a successful person.

There is no reason that being blind needs to be a hinderance unless you let it.
