it seems you know a little bit about history, but not a great deal about current events. If the democrats today were indeed the party of the KKK and Jim Crow, why would you think that blacks would overwhelmingly vote for them?

You should study what the democratic party started doing as early as Hubert Humphrey's keynote speech at the 1948 convention in Minneapolis...

and you should study what the republican party saw as a possible opportunity that they could exploit once they figured out that black Americans weren't voting for them anymore simply because Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.... Blacks were headed to the democratic side of the tracks and that left the GOP with this brilliant southern strategy that they began employing in Nixon's '68 campaign... and that they had fine tuned into a sure fire white vote getter by Reagan's campaign. For example, do you really think it was coincidence that Reagan's FIRST campaign stop after getting the nomination in 1980 was Philadelphia, Mississippi? And do you think that it was coincidence that, in that speech in that most racist of racist towns, Ronnie boy evoked the glorious "states rights" codeword? Here's a clue: there was no coincidence. It was all planned. Tricky Dick and Ronnie and every GOP strategist along the way has figured out that, if they can get them all to the polls, angry negro hating white men and women outnumber blacks in America and, as long as they could keep them voting republican, they could care less who the black man voted for.... until the democrats ran a black man, that is... that is why they need to tamp down black voters and energize angry white ones. Their play book is pretty easy to ascertain. Well, just so you know, of all the votes McCain received, aprox 89.2% of those votes were from white people.

For Obama the number is about 60%

That is simplistic and inaccurate. Regardless of whether or not Obama represents the interests of most African Americans or not, and I don't believe he does, it is not racist for black people to support Barak Obama because the identify with his blackness. It is not racist for a minority class to support a representative of their mjnority class based on that quality alone. It would be racist to vote against someone because of their race.

 

Making decisions based on race is discrimination.

I disagree. Positive discrimination is still discrimination. Racism is treating an individual differently on the basis of racial charactistics. That treatment doesn't have to be directly negative.

Anyway, by voting for one candidate simply because they are black, aren’t people also not voting for the other candidate simply because they're not black?
