Been doing some research on another thread and that last point struck home because the opposite seems to be more accurate. The guns used by the Communists and the Imperialists ended up oppressing more than liberating. The guns used by the Axis powers in WW2 were used for oppressing. It was guns that were used to oppress the blacks of South Africa and are still being used to oppress the Palestinians in Israel. Guns do not "liberate" and it is a fallacy to believe that they do. They are just a tool that can be used to either defend freedom or to oppress freedom just as easily. What the NRA is preaching in the Gun Culture of Death is oppressing us here in America. It has become a society where fear and paranoia are more prevalent than freedom today. Not once have the guns of the NRA been used to "defend" the Constitutional rights of Americans. But they have been used to senselessly kill Americans of all ages. And yes, it is not the guns themselves but the mendacious mindset of those promoting the NRA's Gun Culture of Death. It is hugely PROFITABLE to sell guns to frightened people under the nefarious guise of "protection". Those guns afford no meaningful "protection" at all. Instead it pure greed that puts profits before people and enriches the wealthy.
Law enforcement believed that Nikolas Cruz was not a threat when he was threatening others with a firearm. That is all anyone of rational thinking ability needs to know about the credibility of local law enforcement and the FBI.
It would be interesting if anyone actually knows what could have been done if anything to prevent the shooting under current existing laws.
Part of it may be the endless repetition of the mantra that everyone needs a gun for self protection. I don't remember that type of paranoid talk being common until the last decade or so. Discussion about guns in the press has also become much more accepted and common. And I do believe all the coverage theses types of incidents incur does cause more copycat shootings. And of course first person shooter games are much much more available and accepted. And parents actually raising their children is becoming more and more of a rarity with both parents working families and single parent families.
See, i can read what you say and not once try to run you down. Show me respect. I never bought any of the guns I have owned in my life due to things said in the Media. NAR never persuaded me to buy any gun. Bush never did, Reagan never did and Obama certainly never did. I bought and inherited guns for the main reason is I grew up with guns, born in 1938, they are not new to me. Back when I was a Democrat, we never talked like today's democrats talk. We accepted then the 2nd amendment as well as owning guns because of WW2 experiences. We feared the Japanese might invade from the West and the Germans with the Italians from our East. We had a tiny military. We had German subs sinking ships off the east coast in plain sight of those on our beaches and the Japanese firing into the USA in California and also setting fires in our North West. We were later fighting communism per Truman in Korea. We were not hostile to guns. I too think the Media needs to report such shootings, but one time. Stop sensationalising it. We have talk shows featuring victims but back then we had no TV. The papers were not so prone to long term sensationalism then as now. I know because I delivered a major newspaper that I daily read. We who delivered papers often read the papers we delivered. I come from the era where the question is why is Johnnie leaving the farm and not returning. We who have aged know a lot more than the youth of today give us credit for.
If Nikolas Cruz had been arrested and charged for a felony, any felony, or even misdemeanor domestic violence, he never would have been able to legally purchase a firearm. He threatened family members, threatened neighbors, killed animals, discharged a firearm in the community to try and kill chickens kept as pets by a neighbor, and made terroristic threats online. Any one of these behaviors is easily an offense that warrants arrest and felony prosecution. But such was not done, and for no legitimate reason.
Certainly you are not suggesting that a couple decades ago the NRA decided to advocate for mass killings? Is that really your belief that the NRA's five million members are some how encouraging murder? The Gun Control Culture To Subvert The Constitution is also in stark contrast to the 1950's. The NRA is only fighting back against those who would compromise the Constitution. It's not just the NRA. Fear mongering has become the norm in all aspects of American life from germs on your hands to the fact that you might die along the road if you don't have On-Star. Every plastic 5-gallon buck has a warning on it because some moron let their kid die in one. The NRA is just on the bandwagon. The thing is people's kids are safer in school than on the road. Calculate the odds of a kid being killed in a mass shooting at school. We are scaring the hell out of them. Stop it. There are over 150 children a day abducted by strangers. Your kids are safer in school than they are walking to or from school or shopping at the mall. Mother Jones is not always the best source of information when trying to make a point about gun control. Mother Jones tends have extremely liberal views
Like I mentioned in Post #1811, fear mongering is the new way to sell. Fear sells anything from hand sanitizer to tires to guns to news. Sex used to sell now its fear! Get On-Star so you don't get stranded. Get updates on your phone so you don't miss out on anything.
So what you are saying is that under current law the local authorities did nothing. So where does that leave us?
But you and I are not the gun owning morons that do the shootings so we and our feelings about guns are irrelevent. The issue is what America is going to do with the current gun problem and dwelling on the past or the morals we grew up with isn't going to to solve the current problem. The world isn't going to return to the 1950's no matter how hard anyonevwishes it to be so. .
Unbelievable: Nikolas Cruz Was Never Arrested for His Many, Many Crimes Because of an Obama Policy of Avoiding Calling the Cops on "Diverse" Students In Favor of "Counselling" and "Esteem-Building Exercises" Had this f***er had a single criminal rap on his record, he couldn't have murdered 17 innocent people.
Nothing you posted refuted the FACTS provided in the link about the progression of the NRA Gun Culture of Death.
You are correct. You have also not provided any credible evidence that the NRA has been conducting this Culture of Death you keep talking about. Some link to a Mother Jones article does not really prove any point you are trying to make. If there is really any point that you are trying to make. You really offer nothing to any discussion on gun control.
You can google the NRA Gun Culture of Death for yourself but here is an example what you will find; https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...d-and-scared-to-death/?utm_term=.4f1ec5d50c78 That is the hard TRUTH about the NRA Gun Culture of Death that you want to turn a blind eye towards. It exists and now it is being EXPOSED for what it is! We the People are no longer willing to tolerate this insanity that is killing our children. Even NRA members agree with us. The NRA Gun Culture of Death now stands alone and it is about to find out what it means to become a pariah.
Yes you did. You asked a question I answered and you're pretending like I didn't, while avoiding my question.
Not to mention he had previously had to attend mental health checks, until he turned 18 and stopped going. He also attempted suicide multiple times.
Not merely local authorities, but also the FBI itself, the chief law enforcement agency for the united states. As a result of such the united states, and by extension the people that are citizens of such, are left with a broken, mismanaged, ineffective system that can do absolutely nothing to protect the public from harm, because genuine threats go unrecognized and ignored by those who are supposed to be qualified experts in identifying and stopping threats from coming to fruition. Even with all of the illegal domestic spying going on, with all of the metadata being gathered and stored for examination by law enforcement to search for criminals and terrorists, even with all of the documented warning and threats that were linked to Nikolas Cruz, law enforcement refused to do anything. Even when he threatened others with a firearm, law enforcement refused to do anything at all. Where does this leave the people of the united states? Right back where they were when the country was first formed. They must look out for themselves, because government will do nothing to protect them, and can do nothing.
Facts cannot actually be refuted when no facts are presented. Nothing that has been presented by yourself on the subject, absolutely nothing, amounts to actual, legitimate facts. There is no evidence in any of the posts or links provided by yourself, that would actually show the NRA is promoting a culture of death. The only thing that has been provided by yourself on this matter is baseless sensationalism and malicious slander. Come back with actual facts and they will actually be refuted.
Nothing has been exposed in the above post, other than the seething, obsessive, bordering on fetishistic hatred on the part of yourself and others for the NRA.
