Social distancing, hand washing, avoiding touching their faces, and masks will keep everyone safe.

I will be fine, I know that, essential business, but the rest absolutely not.

Rural areas should be social distancing as well.
At the moment it may seem counterintuitive to folks in rural areas, but what we do about suppressing COVID-19 in cities will have a huge impact on rural areas.

Some of us won't and concerns around getting COVID-19 have altered behavior and damaged huge sectors of the economy. Until we have an effective treatment and/or a vaccine, we won't get back to anything resembling the old normal unless efforts to suppress the virus are taken seriously by the vast majority of Americans.

That's the scariest part of this thing hitting in the middle of flu and allergy time. I'm sure it was terrifying being sick and not sure, glad all is well.

My glass is always half full and sure we will get through this, but the economical price will be stunning, especially for rural America

Assuming the church takes social distancing seriously, it probably would be better than a supermarket. But a visit to the supermarket is one of the riskier things to do these days.

    Listening to Cuomo's update:

Hospital rates are coming down. They have the lowest new hospitalizations and ICU needs New York has had in a while, so they may be past the peak.

They have 18,000 hospitalizations currently. Cuomo mentioned that they started with 53,000 hospital beds in the state, with 36,000 in New York City alone (before adding capacity).

This is very good news. New Yorkers just need to keep up the social distancing and not let their guards down.

What is "opening the economy" in your thinking? I assume you're looking at staging the withdrawal of suppression measures. What comes first?

Some items can be set aside in a location you won't disturb until any virus on the item is gone. Careful about freezer items as the virus can live a lot longer in a freezer.

Encouraging news. They've reported no new cases today so far, but deaths are up from yesterday by 20, and we still have 1/2 day left.

Virus hitting the front lines of essential people:

Among NYC's transit workers, 41 people have died and 6000 are infected.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/41-transit-workers-dead-crisis-184512331.html

I don't ride city transportation (1 public transit employee here has died and the illness in bus drivers keeps increasing), but I do thank the grocery store clerk when I buy food, and convenience clerk when I buy gasoline.

Be grateful to the "little people" who are providing essential services.

I think they're saying to expect a 2-3 week lag as deaths keep increasing while the daily new case count decreases. Critical care hospitalizations are averaging around 2 weeks.

It is good news. The hospitalization rate for New York was much less than anticipated, and California seems to have not been hit too hard.

And restricting international travel. Countries that are easing up are finding they're importing a lot of infections.

There is no evidence the numbers of coronavirus deaths are inflated. Why make such a claim?
We don't know how many people have unknowingly had COVED-19. Is there a "plethora of people" in this category? You're making statements you can't support.

So, with 5 hours left in my day on April 9th, 2020, here the current COVID numbers:

    2020-04-009 COVID-19 MOD 002.png

A number of larger countries have not yet reported in:

    2020-04-009 COVID-19 MOD 001.png

The USA is already over 1,000 deaths. Germany, France and UK have not reported yet.
    Italy is showing less deaths.
Spain? They report twice a day, so wait and see.
    Horrific numbers out of Belgium.
Also, Sweden ist not doing well.

Yesterday, Turkey was at 38,000, thus far today, at 42,000.

The USA will easily cross over 16,000 total deaths today and tomorrow, it will go over 500,000 cases.

I suspect that we will land just under 1.6 million cases worldwide today. Perhaps we go over the 1.6 million mark, hard to say. But either way, it will be not far from the 1.6 million marker.

This is what an economic standstill looks like.

We won't get the economy through this if we don't beat down the virus or find an effective treatment. Those who think we can coax people into restaurants, malls, etc. with the virus running amok are kidding themselves.

You have an extremely valid point. I have noticed the enormous debt over the last 20 years as well. The sums are so enormous, I think that most all of us cannot even imagine how much debt that was.

Do you have a link for that 35+ Trillion figure?
