As of EOD on Saturday, 2023-12-009, with 22 days left in this year, the official C-19 worldwide case total has now exceeded 699.1 million:

    2023-12-009 Covid-19 Zwischenfiguren.jpg

You can see from the table that 2023-12-031 ist listed twice, the top line will be for yearly calculations, the 2 line for quarterly calculations, just as I did at half-year.

In the quick Q3 analysis, I wrote the following:

It is really looking as if officially, we are indeed heading toward or just over 700 million official cases. Of course, with at least 500 million that China never took the time to record and at least 25 million that Egypt did not see put to admit to and add to that little cheats here and there all over the place, we are probably closer to what should have been 2 Billion official cases. And in this year, as testing has practically stopped but a wave is (at least in Germany) identifiably underway, actually, probably closer to 3 billion. However, that is all water over the bridge now, the pandemic is officially over with even if it is not.

What IS surprising is that with 22 days left in this year, the quarterly deaths have already surpassed Q3. Whether or not this is due to impending end of year bookkeeping or a new variant, I do not know.

Happy 2nd Advent to all of my Christian friends out there.

Five days later we are now less than 500,000 cases away from the 700 million mark, which I am now quite sure will indeed be reached.

No Wutt, in April 2 pigs, 3 dogs and a Bier will hit the ground in Germany and terrorize the folks of Immenhausen/Mariendorf.

Its top secret, so they do not evacuate the village. Got me a rather nice property in Mariendorf.

After 45 years abroad, from South to Central to North America, I want some gutes Bier, gutes Brot und Aufschnitt, ein Gehacktes Broetchen mit nem Schnaps, oooooooch jooooooooo.
You have to come and visit me, scratch pig bellies, dog ears and eat vegi crap straight out of the garden with some burned dead animal and drink a few Bier..

So, the new year has come, only, I need to fly to a funeral and am not sure I will have time to get all of the analysis for 2023 done today.

If not, when I fly back, I will use the wayback machine to catch up on the work.

Therefore, @Falena - I ask of you to not yet close this thread, let's move the closure date to the anniversary of this thread, which was started in Mid-March of 2020....

    STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:
    2023-12-031 Covid-19 000 Worldwide.png

The real story that can be told here, one I had been indicating all through 2023, can be told by simply comparing the +cases and +deaths 2023 over 2022 to the same 2022 over 2021: the naked eye shows that there were more than 10 times LESS +cases and more than 4 times less +deaths in 2023 over 2022 than 2022 over 2021. Plus, testing ground quite literally to a halt. These are all signs that as nation after nation declared an official end to the pandemic, the national testing continued in most cases until the pre-ordained budget was used up and then that was that. And where you don't test, you can't catch Covid-19 cases.

Very often in the year 2020 I remarked here in PF that most likely, the "offficial" C19 tallies, at least in terms of total cases, was probably only between 1/3rd and 1/5th of reality. When we consider that as the pandemic really hit Communist China in 2022, again at the beginning of 2023 and more than just a few independent journalistic sources were saying that in just one day, half of Shanghai (pop: 38 million) tested positive but those 19 million new cases never, ever showed up in the official Chinese tallies, I surmise that the worldwide 700,000,000 official C19 cases are likely closer to 3 Billion and then when you consider that about 3.5 billion people were vaccinated, these two numbers indeed bring us to herd immunity.

I also indicated in 2020 many times that for my way of thinking, even more important would be the long lasting effects of sickness on people who officially are no longer positive but now have a diminished quality of life. The drain on many health care systems will be felt for years to come.

At the end of the day, I see no real reason to make any more comparisons as I am now officially finishing the numbers with this final analysis, but history will, in the course of time, confirm the truth of many things I wrote here, and repeatedly at that:

-that some nations did an excellent job of testing and isolating, while others did a terrible job (Egypt, China, Brazil, Khazakstan, etc), some nations were very consistent in their approach which others pretty much flew by the seat of their pants.

-that it is more than unfortunate that this pandemic broke out in during a US presidential election cycle and that Donald Trump politicized and poisoned the issue to no end. Had the pandemic begun in 2018 or 2019 or 2021, I am sure the approach would have been very different.

-that this pandemic brought out the best in many of us but also the worst in many of us.

I can only hope that we have learned from this, for the CDC is already warning about the onset of a new deadly fungal infection called 'Candida Auris', with a death rate of 60% and it is spreading rapidly. You may want to look it up.

The top 87 tracked nations within the worldwide figures:

Top 87 nations, yearly total cases, deaths and tests deaths / yearly +cases, +deaths and + tests & growth rates (2023 over 2022):

    Cases:

    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total cases.png
2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total plus cases, plus avg cases.png
    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by case growth rate.png

    Deaths:

    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total deaths.png
2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total plus deaths, plus avg deaths.png
    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by death growth rate.png

    Tests:

    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total tests.png
2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by total plus tests, plus avg tests.png
    2023-12-031 Covid-19 ZZZ WORLDWIDE - top 87 by test growth rate.png

There is really very little to add except to note (as usual) that the 87 nations I have been tracking reflected 97.77% of all worldwide cases and 96.67% of all worldwide deaths.

Vis-a-vis tests, you can see from the tables that in 2023, about 1/3 of the nations I tracked did not even add one single test to their totals.

This concludes almost 4 years of intensive data tracking. I gave it my very best and hope you all enjoyed this thread.

    Greets,

I also want to thank @Falena for having allowed this thread to flourish all these years. Not every admin is as kind and patient as our Falena. Kudos.

Folks, if you want to add some good-bye commentary on this thread, feel free to do so and then in the next weeks, this thread will be closed and laid "ad acta".

    It's been one wild rodeo.
