https://www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-white-people-police-shot_n_5f0e1756c5b6df6cc0b2747e A. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of policing in this country B. Blacks are killed far out of proportion to their numbers
We also have a representation in the military that is far out of proportion to our census numbers/percentage....by I digress. If you want to play the statistics game, get the raw number of individual crimes used in DOJ reports, get the number of black folk committing those crimes, then get the census number of black folk in the country and compare the percentage. You'll find that less than 1% of the black population are actually committing crimes. Just saying.
Well that's nice. That's of course nothing to do with what Trump said. He is saying that cops kill too many people...of all colors
Are blacks killed out of proportion to the number of crimes they commit? If not then that means they interact more with police.
Again. That's not the point. Trump is excusing the killing of black folks that is way out of proportion to their per centage in the population by saying "The do it to white people too" There's a problem in that. You don't see it? TRUMP thinks cops are killing too many people and wants to not address THAT.
yes white people are abused by bad cops too, this is not a race issue, this is a issue we should all be able to get behind as it affects all of society
I like good police, I dislike bad police.... i think the good police should protect us from bad police
I dislike Trump, but I can see the trap he’s laying here and you’re walking right into it. It appears you don’t have a problem with police brutality, just the “disproportionality” of it.
Actually I have a problem with both. Trump however seems to only be concerned with the police brutality in general. Or is he just saying that because he was painted into a corner...
By shifting attention to the disproportionality of it, you give the impression that that is a bigger problem than police brutality itself. Even if that's true, addressing that problem would more directly impact the legitimate grievances that minorities have about police brutality.
Sincere question.....With the reality that blacks commit violent crimes (especially murder) "far out of proportion to their numbers", how would you expect that reality to impact the proportion of blacks killed by police?
370 white people and 235 black people were killed by police in 2019. There were 2136 assaults on police officers that year. I would conclude that far too many people assault police officers and those who do aren't very good thugs.
You are comparing the number killed to the number assaulted. A more honest comparison would be number assaulted vs number assaulted or killed vs killed; though, even then, that misses the point. We pay police tax dollars. They are public servants. They can, and should, answer to the public. Some random criminal committing a violent crime does not justify a police officer committing a crime.
So the police officer is supposed to wait until the thug hits his target? After he's dead, he can then shoot?
Are those numbers armed and shooting/attacking at police or unarmed? There is a BIG difference. If you shoot at the cops while being arrested you should die.
