https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53539007 Is cannabis so great a danger that it deserves this much attention. I’ve seen lots of bad behavior in Amsterdam but none of it from cannabis. The French are acting like Americans from 30 years ago in my opinion. And I don’t even use this stuff!
Well, I think the reason France is doing this is because a muslim man beat an elderly jewish women and threw her off the balcony, killing her. He said the marijuana made him do it and the courts agreed and he got a light sentence due to not being mentally competent. Just guessing though...
I have done pot maybe three of four times and the notion of violence never even entered my mind. But I guess everyone is different.
In my opinion and based on my self- smoking experience and observing others....its a bad drug. But not due to violence....if anything due to apathy...
France, being 'progressive', will of course blame weed before accepting a perception that unlimited immigration from backward cultures may be hazardous. As a nonpartaking Washingtonian, I can attest that the only thing that changes noticibly when you let people smoke weed is that people are less shy about talking about smoking weed with nonpartakers.
Everybody knows that alcohol makes you MUCH more violent than cannabis. This is being done largely to increase the profits that cannabis makes for the criminal underworld, which makes billions from charging much higher prices for an illegal substance than for a "semi" legal one.
Apathy is precisely the problem with cannabis. But I’m reluctant to make it illegal on that basis but I totally get what you’re saying
The problem is that it is literally a weed and law enforcement has been complaining about this in the US since 1937. I lived in Southern California in 2016 and saw how meth made living people zombies but often violent and it seems like so much more a problem. I don’t have good answers to solve the problem I freely admit but it is heartbreaking!
Unless excessive, apathy isn't that much of a bad thing. Certainly not enough that a drug inducing it can send you to prison for several years, which it used to do, and still can Lots of people in the world need to relax more.
It just became legal in IL this January 1, 2020. I have tried it three times and didn't notice any effect. In fairness, my body doesn't respond to alcohol or prescription medications, as expected, either. With that said, I've heard from regular users that it's more of a mellowing sensation and I can see how that could become apathy. Personally, I think ALL drugs should be legal. If people want to kill themselves with them, so be it. I would release EVERY prisoner locked up for crimes that don't hurt others just to make sure all the pedophiles and rapists have somewhere to be before they are executed (and ALL of them should be).
In prison, violent criminals, rapists and pedophiles first. Let them all be terrified of each other for what they did to others and in a separate facility than the other criminals. My view, as drugs take away valuable and expensive prison space.
The drug is extremely dangerous and extremely addictive, vastly more so than alcohol or other substances to which it is compared by its demented cheerleaders. But this is a topic like abortion and Israel/Palestine; people passionately disagree and minds rarely change.
I had a friend (he killed himself about 15 years ago) who was arrested for drugs (minor) and sent to rehab. He just met new drug dealers there. He told me the best place to score drugs and learn how to skirt the authorities was in rehab and prison. Very sobering (no pun intended) thought.
An appeal to right-wing fear mongering. Nothing more. "Killer Weed" "Reefer Madness" been going on for 90 years. Speaking of which, if you haven't seen "Reefer Madness" you need to. Straight or high that movie is a hoot. You can still hear these arguments here in the States. None of the crazy arguments are factually based. There are health risks from smoking and excessive use can lead to psychological dependency but I can tell you that as a non-addicting pain medication it works very well and I've never seen anyone "hgh" do anything more violent than rip open a bag of cheetos.. As for getting "high." Did it in the 80s. It was OK but I really wasn't into "high." Didn't hate it, just wasn't into it.
Your claim of "passion" is pretty much belied by the posts on this thread. TBH, you seem to be the only one expressing "passion" on the subject and, TBH, your claims of pot being "extremely dangerous and extremely addictive" are simply not supported by any current data. Yes, smoke and drive is stupid and reckless. But, no more so, and possibly less, than drinking or other drugs in identical circumstances. (Those stories about pot users sitting in the car on the driveway for 15 minutes thinking that they've gone to the store are not jokes) As noted, psychological addiction can be a problem in excessive users but I don't recall anyone holding up a liquor store or mugging someone to get their "doobie" fix. In fact, the concept of a pot user being violent because of pot use is generally laughable among people who do/have used. If you don't want to use, don't. But, the virulence of your attitude combined with your citing incorrect claims would tend to get you ignored in any rational discussion of the subject.
Gateway drug yes but maybe less so than alcohol. But straight arrow politicians like alcohol so that is in no danger.
Alcohol's not great, but pot, as noted, is phenomenally dangerous poison. But its demented cheerleaders are unshakeable in their desire to destroy lives for the convenience of their high. Singapore has the right idea - France should look at their policies.
