Not trying to speak for @Doofenshmirtz here. The way I read his/her comment is there is "danger" in leaving a ballot in one's home mailbox for the carrier to pick up because someone can just remove it from an unlocked mailbox.

That is precisely my meaning as well, I've been voting by mail for years, and have not experienced anything like it.

Here is the fallacy of that type of thinking: petty criminals cannot extract cash from ballots. Petty criminals want only one thing, cash or things that can be converted via pawn into cash. This is why no one is stealing ballots. And to steal enough ballots to thwart an election would take a massive coordinated and highly illegal enterprize which would surely get caught and actors convicted and sent to prison.

The people who want to affect the outcome of elections, corporations and politicians, they are not likely to do this, I mean, the idea is absurd. Corporations have their own ways of inflluencing the elections, legally, via pacs, and republicans are affecting the outcome of the elections by limiting polling places, slowing down the mail, caging the vote, crap like that. But no one is stealing ballots, this is absurd.

The postal service LOST $2.2B just last quarter. It's letter volume is half what it was just twenty years ago. And lots of those remaining letter are business pre-sorted mail. OF COURSE it needs to be shrunk and made more efficient and those efforts LONG predate Dejoy.

Oh geez not that canard again.
How many would it have taken to determine who controlled the statehouse in Virginia 2016? Who would be President 2000. The local school board member. A circuit court judge in a close election?

What conflict of interest? He's a logistics expert that's why he is there. Let's see what is happening in your country

Australia Post announces major restructure threatening thousands of jobs
"The government and Australia Post management have long viewed letter-delivery as a cumbersome drain on its revenue and an obstacle to privatisation. In the 2018–19 financial year, the parcels and services sector of the business accounted for $4.8 billion of the company’s $6.99 billion revenue, up 7.7 percent on the previous year. Revenue from addressed letters was down 8.9 percent."

Maybe you should worry about running your own country rather than trying to tell us how we run ours.

The job of the PG is to get the mail out on time. He sent out a notice that there was a likelihood that the ballots could not be processed fast enough to be counted in the election, and while he sent out this notice, he removed over 600 sorting machines and fired a few dozen regional executives in charge of delivery not to mention reversing the policy of treating low cost election ballots as first class mail. In other words, the slow down is intentional, and, in my view, an act of subversion to the United States given that the act is a direct intentional, deliberate move to affect the outcome of an election. This is consistent with three things: 1. He (the PG) met with the president in the oval office just before he testified to congress. 2. He is a Trump megadonor. 3 He owns stock in Amazon and the United Parcel Service, both competitors to the USPS.

Moreover, mail in voting has been done since the civil war without one complaint from republicans, and all of the sudden, now it's a problem.

If he is such a logistics expert then why did he send out the notice that the mail in ballots are not likely to be processed in sufficient time to be counted?

Expert my ass, he's either incompetent or deliberately trying to affect the outcome of an election.

As I understand it, he does own stock in the UPS and Amazon, both competitors to the USPS.

There is no evidence that vote tampering has occurred on any level enough to thwart a national election. We've had absentee ballots since the civil war, and not one complaint from republicans, and now, all of the sudden, it's a problem.

IF mailbox stealing is such a big problem ( and it isn't), then pass a law that says ballots must be placed in a mail drop box, or directly to the drop box at a local post office, excluding rural areas.

I agree with you that it would take considerable effort to do that on a scale large enough to impact the numbers.

I have a question for you though. You put your completed ballot in the box and raise the flag for the mailman. How do you know that it's made it to it's destination?

Lol I always vote by mail. I have mostly for over 20 years. Since trump votes by mail I guess we can deduce that the job doesn’t mean that much to him?

This is nothing but Democrat boosted conspiracy claims at best. This is neither new or unexpected. USPS have been decommissioning these machines now for over 3 years because of several factors.

    1. USPS is losing money on the rapid decline of letters mailed. I mean seriously, when was the last time other than a holiday that you mailed a letter.

    2. USPS task have changed dramatically in the last 3 years from letters to packages especially with their agreements with Amazon.

    3. Two of these machines take up Thousands of square feet not to mention they are dinosaurs.

    4. In 2018, 125 Delivery Bar coders were removed. In 2019 186 were removed. And as USPS started its transition to most of their deliveries being packages, more were scheduled for decommission. 671 this year alone which is only 10% of its total inventory left and are scattered across 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico..

    5. Data published in USPS reports submitted annually to the Postal Regulatory Commission show the agency typically decommissions dozens, sometimes hundreds, of these machines each year.

    6. Even without those machines USPS can handle the load without any problems other than what ALREADY exist.

Now comes the cries for mail in voting like its just going to be a walk in the park because USPS can deliver (X) amount of mail and the decommissioning of these machines is an attack on American freedoms? Please

First off, you can't compare states that have adjusted to mail in voting for years to MOST states that haven't. Requesting a ballot has requirements and keeping and maintaining current addresses isn't so simple. Even in states that have a 10 year history in mailed in votes still to this day have a unacceptable rate of loss.

But for your convenience, 39 states are now allowing mail in voting without any qualifications so you are free to vote by mail if you choose to do so. And states that allow ballot harvesting will have harvesters taking those ballots without any qualifications, reporting, or requirements of any kind. You didn't think Democrats were going to be the only one harvesting ballots this time, did you?

76% of Republicans poled said they will be voting in person. The balance have already been using absentee voting before. If you can shop in stores with a mask and protest by the millions for 3 solid months without a mask, a day at the ballot box will have no effect.

So unless you can tie this conspiracy to the last years of these machines being removed because everyone knew there was going to be a national outcry for mail in voting due to a pandemic, your claims of a conspiracy have no foundation.

That doesn't justify the assault on vote by mail.

And, the fact that vote by mail is a serious improvement in our democracy is why this has come to the fore right now..

I'm sure there are needed changes to our postal system, but I do not see ANYHING LIKE a serious analysis that involves a plan that has been analyzed.

All that's happening is that the administration is once again using the power of the presidency and our tax dollars to assault our most fundamental democratic processes.

What part of USPS has been doing this for 3 years now did you not read?
Their is no assault on vote by mail. If there was, you couldn't do it. Yo can vote by mail all you want. Nobody is stopping you.

This sounds more like making the next excuse as to why Democrats lost the presidential election. Hate to tell ya but, They already did.

A serious analysis that involves a plan that has been analyzed? What the hell does that mean?

It would ironic that after beating the Russian collision impeachment, Trump
gets impeached for involvement of theft of mailboxes, kinda like Nixon for breaking and entering Democrat office cause the damn fool was so paranoid the Dems had some evidence linking Nixon to the JFK assassination

That's not even that relevant. Within a state, you just lose 10,000 or 20,000 votes here and there from some predominantly red districts, and viola, you have your Democrat winner!

Just like you do with Vote Harvesting.

Major policy changes are supposed to be subject to the approval of the Postal Regulatory Commission so what Dejoy has done is illegal.

Many of the machines have been removed in critical swing states: 59 in Florida, 58 in Texas, 34 in Ohio, 30 in Pennsylvania, 26 in Michigan, 15 in North Carolina, 12 in Virginia, 12 in Wisconsin, and 11 in Georgia

So he removes the machines in critical swing states and you want me to believe there isn't some deception going on here about their true intentions?

Only a horse's ass can't see what is going on.

Whether or not the post office makes a profit is irrelevant. It is established by the constitution and the job of the PG is to get the mail out on time, without regard to who is mailing what to whom. Your point is irrelevant. And lots of people, especially elderly people ( like my mom who writes letters to relatives in Mississippi all the time) still write letters, but your point is irrelevant. People and business have a right to use the mail. 1.2 million vets get prescriptions via the mail.

What totally refutes your premise is that the PG sent out notices that that the mail in ballots might not be processed in time to be counted, this was done after he reversed the policy to treat ballots like 1st class mail and treat them as 3rd class mail, after he fired 23 regional delivery execs, after he removed 671 machines from swing states. Wake the **** up..

A few machines is one thing, but 671 machines during a year when there is a pandemic signalling the need for mail in voting ?

Give me a ****ing break, removing those machines during this pandemic is incompetence in the extreme.

What is incompetent is that this president put a man in charge of the post office who has never had any post office experience. Why did Trump put this guy in charge?

Normally, the path to become the PG is as follows: The postmaster general is the 10th member of the Board of Governors of the Postal Service and is elected by the board's nine governors. The nine members of the Board of Governors of the postal service are appointed by the president of the United States with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. But not this president, he's gotta put a crony in there as 'acting PG' to avoid the Board of Governors, a crony whom he knows will slow the mail down so he can get elected because, after all, Dejoy met with the president in the oval office just before he testified to congress, and it's a well known fact that the more votes republicans can suppress, the greater their chances of winning are.

I think it's very clear what is going on here, this president is enmeshed in a sea of criminals, has been all his life, and there is no way in hell you can tell me his word means a ******n thing, he's a vile and despicable human being who is a threat to national security as well as the health of our citizens. His incompetence with covid has resulted in far more people dying than should have. He's guilty of negligent genocide this\ president is pure evil who is still being investigated. And now prominent republicans are voting for Biden, including 70 former GOP national security personnel, all have switch and are voting for Biden, This is historical and what is really going on is that you are ****ing deluded. Wake the **** up.

These canards that it has to be MASSIVE because there were 138,000,000 votes cast for president in 2016 and it takes a HUGE amount to steal it. First there are 51 individual and unique elections and as we found in Florida 2000 one state and a margin of just 235 determined the outcome. And secound that't not the only election in the country, there are thousands of offices run for and issues decided and many in very close elections.

The control of the Virginia Statehouse in 2016 could have been determined by ONE, a SINGLE fraudulent vote because it came down to one district and that district ended in a TIE. They literally flipped a coin to see who won. But a single fraudulent vote either way would have determined that outcome. Go back to Al Frankens election, Bob Dornan's defeat. The integrity of the outcome of the election for your local council representative just as vital as any other election.

Hope it’s a really dramatic arrest with 3 letter insignia uniformed stormtroopers as was done to arrest Roger Stone.

And don’t forget Alex Jones and that crowd of mask denying domestic terrorists swimming illegally in that state park river today.

Or someone who lives for left wing talking points that doesn't really have a clue other than what they are told to say. Nothing but inflamed exaggerated talking points.

Which means you just conveniently somehow forgot the about other 414 that are scheduled for removal, or the 310 already removed like your supposed swing states were only one selected for removal. Get educated. Do the math. These fake talking points are boring.

Which has what to do with what? USPS has 10 billion cash on hand and still doing there job.

Nobody claimed they don't have the right to use USPS. Why do you come up with these non relevant statement?

Blah blah blah more BS exaggerations. USPS said they were going to charge the Government first class mail rates and the US government has ALWAYS paid USPS for ballot deliveries.

What I don't get is: if Republicans desire to win elections why don't they (at least try to) come up with some policies that would actually make people want to vote for them. Can't be that hard surely?

I'm going to guess that you're just one more GOPer that doesn't have a clue.

He is assaulting the USPS as part of his election strategy.

    And, HE says so.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/13/donald-trump-usps-post-office-election-funding

    Trump:
“They need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo. “If they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting because they’re not equipped to have it.”

    https://fortune.com/2020/08/14/usps...tal-service-2020-election-stamps-post-office/

"President Donald Trump admitted Thursday morning that he was intentionally blocking federal funding to the U.S. Postal Service to discourage the use of mail-in ballots in November's elections."

The Postal Service can handle the mailed ballots, have you not been listening to them and instead the misinformation the Democrats have been spouting. The ballots over the voting season will only be 1.5% - 2% of the letter volume. They have plenty of capacity. The Constitution does not assign a role to the Post Office in elections, it has never been a part of elections handling a few absentee ballots as standard mail. If a state wants to use them for their ballots and a voter wants to you do it at their terms and under their conditions and capabilities. And charge the proper rate for the handling of those ballots and post office can make money off it to help pay for those sortation machines and carriers. But it is up to the state to set their dates under Postal Service guidelines and the Post Office is not the guarantor of delivery on a date under 1st Class. Personally when I send legal papers through the mail I send them certified mail/return receipt. Are you going to pay for that with your ballot?

I will be going to my polling place on Tuesday to vote where I will dawn my mask walk in and scan my drivers license and receive my ballot, mark it up and then place it in a scanner while I watch it get tabulated and it will take all of 5 minutes at most. But the Democrats want me to believe that is a matter of life and death.

Tell me when you go out and get your mail these days what do you do with it? How do you handle it?

He instructed the states as to the deadlines they must use and yes an expert and knows services that DO a good job. They have plenty of capacity to handle the ballots and will continue to lose volume.
