If president Trump reaches the magic number of 270 electoral votes on election night, there should be no reason for days and weeks of counting mail-in votes, right? Of course the Dems will in order to see if they got the popular vote for future political purposes. It would appear that 270 electoral votes should be the end of it since Biden would only have 268. Would it surprise anybody if the Dems try to turn this into another circus like everything else they've done for the last four years? I don't know what they could possibly do but I don't think they'll accept another Trump win. Your thoughts?
There are some administrative requirements that might affect this idea. Mainly the States don't certify the electoral college electors until a month after the election, on December 8. Secondly the electors don't officially vote until December 14. This will allow time for shenanigans, and frenzied shenanigans there will be. If Trump wins all kinds of hell will break loose. The DNC has about a thousand lawyers lined up a ready to file voting suits in every state. It is highly likely there are other major attack tactics in their plans. It's unlikely but physically possible that the House could jam through another impeachment, although, since another impeachment is almost a certainty sometime in 2021 the House probably wouldn't want the trouble. Besides, in another twist, it might be possible for Trump to adjourn congress to head off a November impeachment (but I'm really getting into the weeds now.) Hell's bells even if Biden wins IIRC Al Gore has called for the military to forcefully remove Trump right after the election -- a couple of months before inauguration.
There already are shenanigans. Trump is trying to block the use of drop boxes for mail-in voting, block the use of absentee ballots, slow down mail delivery so people lose confidence in mail-in ballots, preemptively get people to question the legitimacy of the vote count, refuse to help states fund extraordinary measures to ensure more people's votes are cast and counted, spread lies about the authenticity of mail-in ballots, encourage supporters to vote twice, question the right's of states to send out mail-in ballots, and has threatened not to accept the election result.
He would have to have a lead greater than the number of votes still not counted to even claim that. Why would any American want a system where legal votes cast by fellow Americans wouldn't be counted?
You just want to avoid the embarrassment of three of the last six election being decided by the electoral college, while losing the popular vote. Republicans like their minority rule. I think they'd sing a different tune if the shoe was on the other foot.
My post is more a question than anything else. It seems like a simple matter, winning the requisite states to produce 270 electoral votes should be all there is to it, it's win or lose, right? In my memory that's is all it's ever been. I think the only issue here is whether or not a Democrat win would be legitimate given their candidates and the party's history.
LMAO...so if trump gets 270, it's all legit, but it Biden gets 270 then it has to be fraud, eh? Do you people even listen to yourselves anymore?
It is only all there is to it if there are no other races or questions on the ballot. What histories are you speaking about?
Every legal vote has to be counted. Period. End of story. Disenfranchising voters is a big no-no unless you live in a Banana Republic.
So Biden gets 270, and it's not a legal election in your mind. Trump gets 270 and it's not questionable. Whatever, dude.
Yeah, that about sums it up, c'mon even if old Joe hadn't gone around the bend wouldn't you be questioning the party's choice. It's almost like the Dems decided they wanted to lose so they came up with the worst possible candidate. Biden before he lost his marbles was an unremarkable career politician. Can you name a piece of legislation that originated with him and actually got passed. I think being Obama's VP probably was the final straw for a lot of voters.
Electoral votes depend on their respective states' votes. If votes have gone uncounted, the EC votes aren't necessarily accurate. You realize that . . . right?
A presidential candidate wins a state by a preponderance of votes anything past 50% is a win. They're saying more Democrats are voting by mail than Republicans but if on election night if either candidate has 75 or 80% of a state's votes that should stand and the mail ins can still be counted but it will be for nothing. Once one candidate hits 270 it's over, no additional counting can change that but I'm sure there would be challenges. Shame on the Dems for concocting yet another scam.
And for close elections, you won't know who made it past that 50% without counting all the votes. And? Fake "scam." You are the only one "concocting" falsehoods here, unfortunately.
Trump won’t reach 270 electoral college votes election night so you have nothing to worry about. Well except for accepting that election night outcome, can you?
Curious, but why would mail voters delay? I vote in person, but I'll do it a couple weeks early, do mail voters typically plan on waiting till the last minute?
The question makes no sense. It's the very inability to plan ahead that results in them voting last minute.
I guess. My ballot will literally take me 3 minutes to complete. That's allowing extra time in case my pen runs out of ink.
In states that are winner takes all and the margin of victory is within recount parameters, you can safely bet there will be recounts in those states and electoral votes will not be distributed until those recounts are settled..
