House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is telling his Republican House colleagues to "anticipate" a vote on Wednesday regarding the current state of the House GOP Conference Chair position, which is expected to end with Liz Cheney being removed from her leadership role over her opposition to former President Donald Trump.

"We are a big tent party," McCarthy writes. "We represent Americans of all backgrounds and continue to grow our movement by the day. And unlike the left, we embrace free thought and debate. All members are elected to represent their constituents as they see fit, but out leadership team cannot afford to be distracted by the important work we were elected to do and the shared goals we hope to achieve."

The real story is that ridiculous (my bold) line in his letter to House GOP members. Irony is completely unknown to this guy.

Here is a related article showing several (funny) Twitter responses to that line.

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/kevin-mccarthy-orwellian-line_n_6099ed26e4b099ba752d6af3

But the gist, for others that don't pick up on irony, is they will be removing somebody from a position for participating in "free thought and debate" by daring to voice common sense..... God, I love lack of self awareness.

Obviously, I couldn't care less who's #3 in charge of the GOP/Donner Party, but that was his sales pitch???

Anybody want to guess on the vote count? I'm betting it will be closer to 60/40 to remove than a wipeout..

A poster here wrote something along the lines of "Republicans are inclusive and tolerant. You can tell by looking at how we treat Cheney and Romney." I didn't reply to the poster because it would have been pointless but the post stood out just for the reasons you stated. I'm not sure if they are willfully ignorant or hatred is just so ingrained the toxicity seems normal.

My favorites is that Chaney voted with Trump twice as often as Elise.

Cheney is right on most of the issues but the issue here is a united front. Cheney was 180 with the majority of the republican base that the RNC needs for support.

A “united front” for party over country is why we have the issues that we have.

Well, they haven't had either killed, so maybe that's their working definition of inclusive and tolerant?

Cheney and Romney have been/are being treated like dirt. Actually, like the grime that dirt has to wash off...

Be interesting to see if either responds to this effort?

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ra...-republicans-threaten-third-party-2021-05-11/

Not sure they will, since I believe they still think the R party can be saved to what they think it used to be (foolishly, IMO)

Sure, but what else does the democrat party have? America First over America Last.

    Yeah.

    Cheney: 98% with Trump
    Stefanik: 77%....

The GOP has become a party where competence is measured in terms of loyalty to Trump, not in terms of ideology or gains for citizens.

When America First rhymes with a ridiculous GDP growth rate and 550,000 deaths from a pandemic, we have a serious definitional problem among Republicans.

Yep. I guess the fact they haven't built a hangman's noose outside is a "plus".

I agree with you. They are just too far gone. I wish it was different but I don't expect any miracles.

Silly people think government can stop a virus but then we have many silly people in the US that think that.

Democrats think America is made better by improving QOL for all. Republicans think America is made better by allowing some to greatly succeed and others greatly fail.

Just because you do not agree with what the other sides sees as a better America does not mean they want America last.

Your sentiment that what Republicans do is wrong but it is ok because they are not Democrats is disgusting.

People who stay away from conspiracy theories know how to compare the American record with that of other Western countries.

And Trump's handling of the pandemic has been a disgrace.

That's one of the reasons the voters threw him out.

If you think QOL is sucking off the government teat then kudos for you. Trump made America better by having the lowest unemployment rate in all demographics.

LOL, you wouldn't have the alleged vaccine without Trump but hey, revisionist history is all you have. Silly people still think government can stop a virus. Are you one of those?

I am among those who remember your comments last March mocking scientists who predicted that the pandemic would kill at least 185,000 Americans in one year.

Science is truly the Trumpsters' worst enemy.

Don't leave out the part where he anticipated that he would get booted because of his response to COVID that he weaved a tale of election fraud months and sowed the seeds of doubt long before the election even took place.

Ah, such a bad memory. If you remember they predicted 2 million. Somehow the seasonal flu disappeared too.

What's the vote pct tomorrow? How close is it? Or not very?

What happens if Liz walks out of there still in her leadership position? After all, isn't she a better bet, long term, than Kevin McCarthy??

Elise Stefanik, not Kevin McCarthy. Elise is on board with the majority of republican support as opposed to Cheney who has a burr up her behind.

It's tough for me to predict because I don't follow any of these people. Historically, I haven't known too many Republican males that go for outspoken women so McCarthy might get some traction. Let's wait and see. Maybe there is a Santa Claus. ;-)

All it took was massive deficit spending during a stable economy.

Look how he handled the pandemic — what was the UI rate when he entered office vs when he exited it?

All it took was a single crisis to cripple his inept administration.

QOL can absolutely be increased by using out taxpayer dollars efficiently. Or we could use it to bomb other countries and act as a piggy bank for the president. I guess you have chosen your preferred use of it
