It was well written. His delivery was superb, the set was professional. The use of visual aids and simile to create strong analogy and the first-rate video and audio all add up to “quality”. Combine all the above with star power, authoritative connotations of roles played, and history of being a “conservative” politician, and you end up with nearly insurmountable emotional appeal. Appeal that allows acceptance of ideas that would be rejected if packaged differently. Ideas like standing with a politician today, tomorrow and forever. Or ideas like if a politician succeeds the country succeeds.
With the left attack has many meanings. All ya have to do is tell truth and peoples feeling are hurt then it's considered an attack.
Thank you; nice post. It seems to me I've been here for a while now and my posts should make my position clear. However, I have no problem, certainly in response to your post, in settling any doubt. Yes, I am utterly opposed to the childish reductionism and rigid duality of current American politics and political parties. It is an impossible situation where any criticism of one side is translated into extreme support for the other. No voice is allowed for "non-duopoly". Trump is wrong now as he has almost always been wrong. It is absurd that he was ever elected. It is equally absurd that an opposing party could not defeat him. Covid and his incurable, consuming egoism defeated him. This should not be seen as a victory for the 'other side' of the duopoly or its minions, but inevitably will be, giving it even more power for now. Meanwhile, its mirror image "Republicans" have no choice but to dig in their heels and maintain their supporters. Given the events of 2020, assigning superiority, moral or otherwise, to either side of this is, sorry to say, amusing at best. "Right" and "left" have, as with so many other words and terms, lost meaning in present political discourse. That said, what I see presented by those who claim those titles disgusts me. I have always had a visceral hate for extreme right and total intellectual contempt for extreme left. My own views are eclectic, diverse, practical. That makes them radical to some people, timid to others and unfathomable to the rest, save for a few souls similar to me (or I to them, as you will). To return to this specific incident, the invasion of Congress was sedition and should be punished accordingly to the maximum. Trump should not be made a martyr in any way or, in fact, given any further credibility at all. Impeachment will only tie up Congress and prevent real work (as if they do much of that, anyway). Let him crawl away into shamed history with the minimum of attention. Sentence all convicted of actual attack on the Constitution to the harshest sentences available. After that, all the identity political hacks and superficially populist demagogues must be vetted and the two party system thoroughly revisited. Well, that's probably more than enough for now. Doubtless, many will find what has been stated here to be clear as mud, or simple rantings of an eccentric.
Since my name was mentioned here, I thought I'd reply. The reason why I liked the post in question was because of it's non-partisan tone. I agreed with the tenor of this post, because both US parties, while seemingly on different sides of the political spectrum, are beholden to only one thing: Big money. They use social issues to keep us divided, making it appear that the other side is the mortal enemy, to garner votes for themselves. The Democrats are no better in this game than the Republicans. One only has to watch the disgusting attack ads from both sides, they make one sick. Even at the down ballot races, it seems that the own policies have become totally unimportant, what is rather important is to make the point to the voter that the opponent will lead to destruction of the US. Why? Because it works. People seem to rather vote against something than to vote for something. The end results is a sorry state of the US political system, which may result in the election of the worst demagogues, and the possibility of a civil war, as we have seen last week. What have we learned from this? Will we come together as a nation? No. The voters who feel they were wronged will go to even more extreme political platforms, who tell them none of this was their fault, but it is the other side to blame. Confirmation bias continues and the division gets worse. It is really quite hopeless, actually.
I would describe my own perspective in a rather similar fashion; from which, though, should not to be extrapolated that our viewpoints will necessarily be rather similar on anything. I will question, if you'll permit me, the way you rectify this stance with your self-described, "practical," view of things (unless you meant practical in an ideal, or even semi-ideal, world, as opposed to as a synonym of pragmatic, which implies a taking into account of what is realistic for one to expect). Surely you recognize the sizeable force of all the conspired interests, which would need be overcome, just to get people to consider your suggestion; do you sense a sea-change in the making? I once had the optimism to see people as choosing to control their own fates by doing what is in their, overall, best interests; I don't want to go into the numerous digressions from this thread necessary to explain all the flaws I now see in that former view. Here is a good example of both our opinions diverging from the pat positions of those who are either strongly right or strongly Democrat-left, & yet differing from each other's, as well. I took a good bit of brow-beating from one Democratic poster who thought that I was letting Trump off the hook or somehow being too conciliatory by saying that it made much more sense to me for Democrats, once they are finally able to push through legislation to give the public a real taste of what they're about, and with the significant amount of urgent, remedial legislation that should be passed, to focus on that, rather than a Trump trial, initially, in the Senate (this was before, I now hear, Democratic leadership is suggesting this same possibility). I was not saying that they should omit a trial, only that later is better than this, particular, & highly-unique moment. The Dem tried to say that, "there will always be an excuse.." and ,"there will be just as much to do in 6 months as there is now." If that is the case, I submit it means that Biden & the Dems have failed, as poorly as has the Trump Administration. At the same time, I take flack from the right for supporting the practical approach of the House passing an article of impeachment NOW, before they have an amenable Senate to work with on legislation, and while Trump is still in office, as a deterrent to his following his baser instincts during his final days. There are many reasons why this last, outrageous act of using his supporters to attempt to stop the naming of the new President-elect, should not be allowed to pass, unchallenged; one of which being--as again, you must know-- that simply because he is out of office,Trump will not quietly dissipate into the mist.
It wasn't law enforcement, it was the national guard. Trump held that up because he has to approve it.
I just watched....very powerful and true.....now just watch as Arnold gets denigrated , insulted, vilified, criticized by PRO-NAZI factions...
It is a valid comparison. Fortunately Trump had neither the power or the requisite forces to accomplish his end, which was to stop congress from carrying out their duty as mandated in our Constitution of these United States of America. As the main party among several which have been whipping his supporters into a frenzy, he and his minions, along with the mob of rioters which forcibly broke into the halls of congress and vandalized the same are guilty of insurrection, sedition, and treason. This was no benign demonstration. This was no small thing, and it needs to be met with the full force of our legal system and all of those responsible, from those with boots on the ground to the legislators who spent months fanning the flames of discontent to the occupant of the oval office who all but commanded the mob to invade the halls of congress need to be expelled, arrested, charged, and tried. Trump needs to immediately be removed from office via resignation, the 25th amendment, impeachment, or the 14th amendment.
the terminator did the death penalty on tookie, which goes against his speech. https://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/13/us/governor-rejects-clemency-for-inmate-on-death-row.html

Sorry, but no! The one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. And you do not want to get me started on the morality of the death penalty!.
While cynicism is a contributor, it is really only part of a bigger Truth, which thinkers have observed, going back to at least ancient Greece, through to Simon & Garfunkel, and supported by the results of E.E.G. studies, conducted by modern psychologists: "A man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest;" or, in the words of Epictetus-- "What is the first business of one who practices philosophy? To get rid of SELF-CONCEIT. For it is impossible for anyone to begin to learn that which he thinks he already knows." I think some refer to it as cognitive dissonance. But whatever one calls this inner narrative, it is what makes people susceptible to this type of manipulation. If there is any solution to be found, a prerequisite is getting to the root of, the reason for, these fallacious foundations, underpinning the personalized realities of too many of our countrymen.
Uh, National Guard is considered law enforcement when they act in a law enforcement capacity. What's the difference though? Biden was clearly talking about the response of ALL personnel who responded.

DC is not a state, they have no NG of their own, so they use the NG of Maryland I believe. For the NG to be deployed, the President has to give permission to Marylands governor I believe
Oh yes, Wednesday was JUST like Kristallnacht, where rioters destroyed 267 synagogues, murdered at least 91 Jews, destroyed or damaged over 7,000 Jewish businesses, and 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and incarcerated in concentration camps! ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL!
Yeah, Kristallnacht was a hell of a simile! Kristallnacht where rioters destroyed 267 synagogues, murdered at least 91 Jews, destroyed or damaged over 7,000 Jewish businesses, and 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and incarcerated in concentration camps! ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL! Yeah, “conservative” is right. He was basically a Democrat wasn't he?
