I'd have no problem with our rather moderate universal healthcare system if it wasn't used to justify restrictions on my liberty on the thesis that my injury is a public cost. I earn far above minimum wage and don't know anyone who doesn't. Population level statistics are complex and if I was seeking another country to live in I wouldn't base my choice on them at all. I'm not going to move to Slovenia or Montenegro and neither are you just because both have a far lower infant mortality rate than we do.

Not a word about the crimes against Julian Assange. I'm not interested.

True, sometimes it's easy to forget that the loud, minority doesn't necessarily represent the majority.

The empty drum makes the most noise

Thank goodness it’s only Americans who are arrogant and condescending!

I saw an Australian political talk-show months ago, after a mass shooting in the US. They cited Tucker Carlson, who was still with FOX at the time. With regard to the liberal backlash against assault weapons, Tucker said something like, "Why do they always want to blame the tool?" One of the Australian commentators said," Let's talk about tools. Tucker Carlson is a tool!"

    I couldn't agree more!

You don't want gratitude. You want other nations to be subordinate to the US. That is not how to win friends and influence people. If other nations view the US with skepticsim.......there is a good reason for it. It is up to Americans to figure it out for themselves. Show a little humility some time .....might go a long way.

Physician heal thine own self and mow your own yard first.... if you put clothing on it it's called a scarecrow instead of just a straw man.

the very same applies to you et al. If one does not learn from feedback , one just repeats their conduct as if it is acceptable. Most civil nations examine the feedback they gt (if negative) and learn from it. That is part of growing in an advanced society. This nation tends to just knee jerk react and get defensive. Counterproductive.

Neither is most of Australia. You can have and keep him. Just afford him 1st Amendment rights, do not discriminate against him because he is Australian, and don't kill him if you convict, mkay?

Yeah because we would never make comments about a long standing American program without watching it first

I fail to see the connection between the arrogant comments in this thread and whether or not anyone watched anything.

Did you fail to notice this tidbit in the OP?

Not because the Commentator was American, but because the comments were opinion/editorial in nature. I used the word "American' to identify when the facts stopped at opinion began.

I have no interest in why anyone chooses to watch or not watch anything. It’s all irrelevant to the observation I made after reading through the thread.

Just use the word Australian to let us know when it's no longer worth listening to.

Yeah, she went on to discuss freedoms, and how the US prioritizes the freedom to have an assault weapon. She said that Australians enjoy the freedom to NOT die in mass shooting.

And that speaks volumes about the different "value" systems. Don't it??

Although I'm born in America, I believe that America can learn a lot from other countries in the world. Australia's history is much like the US. There was a gun culture, with a Wild West, and popular outlaws like Ned Kelly. Although my Australian history is lacking, I believe it was a mass shooting at a elementary school in Melbourne that changed everything in Australia. I may be overstating the event, but that's what I recall. The US has had these kind of tragedies, but we are too arrogant to look at successes in other countries.

This same arrogance is prevalent in many ways, one of the biggest examples is our huge per capita consumption of oil. Our major cities aren't linked by high speed rail, and many aren't linked by any rail at all. We could learn from China, Germany, France, etc; but we often live in a bubble.

I absolutely AGREE. Nations SHOULD learn from each otehr. (and they CAN.) but far too often competitiveness takes over ..... as opposed to civil cooperation. At some point it might happen as the planet gets smaller and smaller.
Personally......I love hearing from peple from other nations their culture ,and get ideas from them. I truly believe that is how we all can grow. and mutually benefit. The more exposure we have the richer we are as humans.
