As a retired public school teacher do mind if I take that comment as an insult. I know for a fact that the people I worked with for 34 years didn't think what they were doing was in any way a joke.

Well, if you or any of the colleagues you refer to actually taught your pupils useful, factual, critical, and unbiased information in accredited subjects, then I do apologize.

Courses of the kind I mean are generally associated with the Natural Sciences -- higher math, engineering, physics, chemistry, biological and medical sciences, architecture.. you know, USEFUL and PROVABLE instead of subjective and nauseatingly 'touchy-feely'.... And if it makes me seem less 'knuckle-dragging', I don't have much use for most "business school" classes, either... most of which I feel should be relegated to the assortment of 'tech schools' that have appeared everywhere, offering people almost instant "degrees"....

True story: I came across a lady teacher and her students on some kind of a 'field trip' a few years ago in what is called "Old Colorado City" (in Colorado Springs). What they were doing there I cannot imagine... it was right in the middle of the 'tourist-trap' district, in front of a bar, next to a T-shirt joint, and across the street from some kind of 'art' shop. A very inspired venue for a high school 'field trip'... right...?

Anyway, after chatting a moment, I rather spontaneously asked her, "Hey, what's the cube-root of 27?" The reply... "Nine?" :psychoitc:

So, no, based on that and many other 'impressions', I don't have much use for what passes for "education" in public schools in the United States -- especially not during the last thirty years....

Last true story -- before I retired from my position as a lower-level manager in a large, international high-tech corporation, I had a guy working for me who used to COLLECT so-called 'Masters Degrees'. At last count he'd gotten three of these things, in less than 18 months, and NEVER EVEN WROTE A SINGLE THESIS.... :roflol:

The thing is that the epidemiologists who specialize in outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics know how to do this. Schools can safely be opened IF we adhere to some sensible guidelines. I do not understand how this virus became political, nor do I understand why so many politicians are blocking the medical safeguards which should have been put in place

Uh-huh.... I certainly was not dependably 'sensible' when I was in public school, and I doubt that most kids are, honestly. Will they follow rigid guidelines and discipline requirements as needed in order to keep a pandemic from spreading? Be serious!

And if the kiddies don't fall down dead, they can easily spread it to many, many others who may get very sick, very quickly, and have to undergo hospitalization -- and may die....

Suggestion: conduct their 'classes' online and forget about cramming everyone into school rooms. Whatever the little dears can learn in class rooms (not much), they can also learn online. That's pretty much all they pay any attention to anyway!

Tell the teachers' unions that their members will get full pay and benefits (whether they actually DO anything or not), and that will be the END of any potential problems with them.... Problem solved, and nobody gets sick because of kids in schools.... :cheerleader:

Oh, DAMN! I completely forgot about the necessity for the 'nanny-state to provide the kiddies with free breakfast, free lunch, and, in many cases, free dinner -- AND free food bags to take home for the weekend! This, of course, in addition to all the other free stuff that the government social workers shovel out for free in order for the Democrat Party to get votes from welfare-addicts.

Well, then -- while the little dears are pecking around on their smart phones at home, learning the wonders of the world while thinking great thoughts, we should also have taxpayers fund food trucks to go to all the places the kiddos live and get them supplied with free food, too!

Oh, and lest I forget again -- of course taxpayers need to buy them computers, smart phones, and provide them free internet service, including service for the phones, too. It's EASY when you're as RICH a country as WE are....

(Reality: U. S. National Debt, on July 10, 2020 -- $26.5 TRILLION DOLLARS). Have wonderful, rich-guy day!

The last line says it all, “Trump offered no evidence for the allegation, which has been criticized by health experts who say politicizing the issue will make it harder to work toward reopening schools”

    Obviously that "says it all".

Trump (as always) is a Complete IMBECILE (who has no grasp of the subject matter).

There are roughly 13,000 School Districts in the USA.

Each one of them located in States that are in different phases of Quarantine/Reopening.

Any sort of blanket "one-size-fits-all" approach is patently absurd (and completely unworthy of being taken seriously)

    ^And, Everybody KNOWS that.

Trump's failure to grasp such a rudimentary concept makes it imperative that the USA Votes Out this Unqualified (Mistakenly-Elected) IDIOT in November.

The Election can"t come soon enough.

OH?! You mean, a person should pay for what he gets -- like it was when America WAS 'great'...?

Naw... that's, like, so 'old school', dude -- today we're in our third generation of cultivated PARASITES, and the fun never ends....

Thought for the day, or nearly any day in the fugged-up 21st-century:

Are you suggesting FEMA is not still involved?

He is using Mafiosa tactics to coerce schools and colleges to get back into session, by threatening them with IRS stripping their tax exempt status.

What does FEMA have to do with the abdication of decision making to the governors? Yes, I understand that FEMA is distributing aid relief, but has nothing to do with the OP and whether or not DJT should be dictating to governors if and when they open their schools.

What the below articles are saying is large gatherings didn't spread the virus, schools could be considered gatherings. So if all these people are saying the riots and rioters didn't cause a rise in the china virus infections, then what could possibly be the reason why schools would be different?

Black Lives Matter protests did not cause an uptick in covid-19 cases

California's governor doesn't seem to have a problem with gatherings
