http://www.pri.org/stories/2015-04-10/how-kicking-trash-can-became-criminal-6th-grader In our ever increasing police state, we now have police in our schools arresting and convicting children for little more than temper tantrums. Our system is obviously broken and our country is becoming a scary place to be.
That is upsetting. They can afford a school resource officer, but not someone to help autistic children. I'm sure they do, but they had a rule telling him to leave class last. Why did this exist in the first place? I hope that somehow something good comes of this. It's a sad tale to see what our schools have become.
It's not okay for the teachers to discipline the children anymore so now they have to call in the police.
Seems like even the small crimes have been turned into "felonies" now. And once an individual is considered a felon, they have certain rights taken away for the rest of their life. Seems like a scheme to take away civil rights from as many people as possible. "Don't worry, these laws only apply to former felons"
A 12-year-old girl from Queens was arrested and taken out of her school in handcuffs for writing "Lex was here. 2/1/10" and "I love my friends Abby and Faith" on her desk. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/05/desk-doodling-arrest-alex_n_450859.html A few years ago a 10-year-old girl was arrested and charged with a felony for bringing a small steak knife to school. It turns out that all she wanted to do was to cut up her lunch so that she could eat it. http://www.wftv.com/news/news/knife-at-lunch-gets-10-year-old-girl-arrested-at-s/nFBC5/ In Florida, an 11-year-old student was arrested, thrown in jail and charged with a third-degree felony for bringing a plastic butter knife to school. http://www.eagleforum.org/educate/2009/june09/zero-tolerance-states.html Back in 2008, a 13-year-old boy in Florida was actually arrested by police for farting in class. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/report-martin-county-student-arrested-passing-gas- But if you think it's just stinky smells you can be arrested for, you'd be wrong. At one public school down in Texas, a 12-year-old girl named Sarah Bustamantes was recently arrested for spraying herself with perfume. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/jan/09/texas-police-schools It's not just older children. A 6-year-old girl down in Florida was handcuffed and sent to a mental facility after throwing temper tantrums at her elementary school. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/port-st-lucie-schools-confines-6-year-old-with A 6-year-old boy was recently charged with sexual battery for some “inappropriate touching” during a game of tag at one elementary school in the San Francisco area. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/20...yground-sex-assault-claim-against-6-year-old/
I agree, this is disgusting. Children, especially those diagnosed with autism, need to be met with understanding and compassion. They're frustrated children that don't even fully understand how the world works yet, so they do something wrong, something really small, and instead of trying to enable them to become better people, we send them to court?!
