"The Black Lives Matter movement that swept the country in 2015 has—among other accomplishments—forced global media outlets to afford victims of police killings the most basic acknowledgement: a public record of their names and deaths.Such a grim tally was maintained this year by both the Guardian and the Washington Post, following the consistent failure of the U.S. government to keep adequate records.

According to the Guardian, 1,126 people were killed by police so far in 2015, averaging more than three a day, with 27 percent of those slain facing mental health issues. The numbers confirm the racial injustices highlighted by nationwide protests. Among black people in America, 6.9 per million were killed by police, compared to 2.86 white people per million. In other words, African-Americans were nearly 2.5 times as likely to be killed by police as their white counterparts". - Source

    1) I don't always agree with my sources on all things. In this case, BLM has become a sham....a loosely confederated gang of people whom are using this human tragedy as a means to enrich themselves by holding businesses and cities hostage.

    2) However, the rest of the article is on point. FBI statistics are incomplete because the law does not require LEO's to report police shootings and deaths related to that. As a result, the media was forced to dig through local news reports to get a better grasp at how many people the police actually did shoot and kill. This is something the police, the nra and the far right, cannot stop

    3) Another point. Not all police killings were unjustified but considering that police departments and local justice systems tend to whitewash these crimes, they will rarely indict a cop for murder, so the exact is unknown. Also and unfortunately, members of the black community are disproportionately implicated in overall crime, which elevates the incidences of armed police intervention.

Despite the publicity surrounding police shootings and murders, law enforcement show no inclination to stop resorting to the excessive use of deadly force nor hold those who use such force, accountable to the public.
