Trump is demanding that schools reopen this fall.

There's a big chance that putting all of these people together, children the elderly and adults, will cause a very bad second wave of Covid.

if this happens we will have to close the schools again and do a major shutdown again of most urban areas.

Trump will be blamed and he will lose the election.

I honestly don't hope this happens because it means another 100,000 Americans will die.....

Most people know that the control of school openings is provided by local governments, Not Trump

Most Liberal leftist don't really care who is in control of these decision, they just need to find a reason to blame Trump for it.

What concerns me is how many of those who will be infected come September and October will be too sick to actually vote.

If second wave happens during Trump's second term he has already been reelected so he has already won. If second wave is under Biden, it'd be his incompetence.

The sad thing about this thread is that it is terribly true.

I don't want a hundred thousand more Americans to die but if Trump gets his way it will happen.

The only consolation is that he will lose the election

Doubtful that many people will die, particularly children, now that we have 6 months of working knowledge of our own independent of Chinese studies that smoking helps prevent COVID

I have not heard anymore about that, so did they find smoking is helping and are hiding that from the public or was it bunk?

Nobody is blaming Trump for the decisions made by school boards. We're blaming him for divisive rhetoric. You are correct. These decisions are not Trump's call, so he should keep his mouth shut. Myself, I don't think he's having much effect on any local decisions, another reason to shut up about it.

Trump has threatened to withhold federal funds from school districts that dont open up.

    its blackmail.

parents are being forced to choose their children's health or school funding.

How can he do that? He must fund what Congress approved, as far as I know.

he can issue an EO to cut all Department of Education funding to districts that remain closed, and Federal highway funding to the states that allow it.

it will then go straight to court.

What is his objective? How does he get reelected by punishing people? Makes no sense. Unless of course this is just targeted at Democratic cities and states.

They haven't really studied it yet other than the pattern has been noticed elsewhere and noted by credible medical folks. There are some theories like nicotine reduces inflammation, or hacking smokers don't notice they suddenly have a covid cough, but they aren't sure why that inverse relationship exists at least statistically.

15-20% of all covid cases require hospitalization.

That seems to correspond with the statistic that about 15% of the population is susceptible to the storm syndrome in which their immune system over-reacts to inflammation.

Don’t even pretend that Trump isn’t pushing this. It’s on him. It fails and he has again... failed

And yet we’re seeing over a thousand a day die.

When schools open and infections spread.... what then?

Schools in Blue states are free to shutdown as long as they want to.

Why should schools be closed in somewhere like Montana in the middle of nowhere?

Some people delay treatment. Some people think they are doing okay and then crater. Some people have access to some drugs and others to other drugs or none. Whether schools are open or not, it is going to spread. If your child isn't in school they will be with you in the grocery store when you walk through a cloud of sneeze. Personally, I don't like that schools are opening. I would rather we have free internet for all students who don't have it and do it all virtually. When we do, and the virus is over though, don't be surprised when school systems want to keep doing that because it is cheaper in the long run.
