Florida's Stand Your Ground law is protecting shooter Zimmerman from arrest or charges even if a mounting pile of circumstantial evidence points to a caculated killing. From eyewitness, ear witness and witnesses accounts, any reasonably intelligent person can deduced some of what happened that night. Anyone who listened to the haunting 911 tapes and heard the over a minute desperate screams for help, knows that logically, it was the unarmed teen screaming not the killer with the power of a deadly weapon on his side. While Sybrina and Tracy Martin buried their 17-year-old son, Sanford police and the State Attorney's office treated the teens death like it was road kill. Meanwhile, on Chicago's South side in Illinois, 80 year old Homer Wright was arrested for protecting his home and family when alleged burglar, 19-year-old Anthony Robinson broke into his Englewood business, also his place of residence. He lived behind the Tavern he owned. According to CBS 2 local news, the elderly Wright was arrested and released on $120,000 I-bond for shooting Robinson in the leg on the night for breaking into his business he had for 40 years. The alleged teen thief was arrested and charged but local residents are outraged that Wright was also arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities say he had a gun when he was barred from owning one because he is a convicted felon. His felony conviction was over 20 years ago mind you. His grandson Courtney Cook is hopping mad that they arrested his grandfather for protecting his wife, home and his business. Seen on CBS 2 News, he said, "....He is 80 years old--what is he suppose to do--be a victim?" Neighbors, actvists and Wright's family are staunchly defending his right to protect himself regardless of being a felon. They feel his safety and that of his family came first. Richard Kling, Professor of Law at Chicago Kent University says if Wright had used a knife, he would not have been charged. Speaking to ABC 7 News, Kling said that Wright wasn't being charged for defending himself and his home but for using a gun which he was prohibited from having. The law seems to be downright convoluted and deeply unbalanced. One man walks away after killing a minor and a senior citizen is arrested and charged for protecting his family in his own home, when he only shot and wounded the burglar in the leg, and did not shoot him in the chest to kill him like the self appointed neighborhood watchman in Sanford? Moreover, Zimmerman was also carrying a gun illegally on that night. Though he had a license to carry a weapon, neighborhood watch personnel are prohibited from carrying a gun on their watch. He broke the rules just as Wright did. The operative word her is "watch." Zimmerman was suppose to watch, not follow, stalk, and shoot to kill anyone regardless of what they might be doing and the 911 operator he called that night about Trayvon acting "suspicious" reminded him of that fact. He distinctly told the watchman not to follow the teen. We all know the end result of that. A Grand Jury is suppose to convene on April 10. Let's see how the winds blow in Florida on this one.
