Kentucky novel coronavirus patient checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice. So to prevent him from spreading the virus, officials are surrounding his house to keep him there.
The 53-year-old man in Nelson County refused to quarantine himself after testing positive for Covid-19, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said.
Nelson County officials "forced an isolation" on the man, one of the first 20 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state.

So, what is your opinion on this sort of "government intervention"?

And, it does raise the question of people who are aware that they have it going back out among the public.

In any event, are you surprised that it has "come to this"?

    Thoughts?

I don't consider it 'government intervention'. I consider it government handling a nut case the best they can. The guy is a threat to society. He's capable of committing harm or even death. What other options are there?

Why did he check himself out of the hospital?

Put him on a wire rope tether and leave him no tools that could possibly cut it, no so much as a fingernail file.

Then put an official sign in the yard signed by a judge: Leprosy in the Contagious Phase. Quarantined. Do not Enter.

Hate to see law enforcement resources used up on this.

Wasn't it California which reduced the penalty of knowingly exposing someone to HIV from a felony to a misdemeanor?

Yep, CA coddles criminals and then the democrats scratch their heads and wonder why things are going to hell there.
But I do think anyone that anyone tested positive and refuses to isolate themselves should suffer whatever consequences the local authorities hand out, yes including shooting the ******* when if he tries to leave his property.

I'm all for government being limited to the greatest extent possible, and individual freedom expanded to the greatest extent possible, but this is the type of situation where I'm not bothered by the attempt of local government to intervene. This individual doesn't have a legit gripe against having the right to go about infecting others, a couple of which may die.

Given that its the Sheriffs Dept, elected locally, either this Sheriff is confident that this is how his constituents want the situation handled, or he's not looking to get re-elected.

Here's to hoping the infected guy isn't curious as to how far the deputies are authorized to go to 'keep him there.'
