If you wanted a low-sodium breakfast that includes an egg, meat, hash browns and bread but didnt want to slave in the kitchen, there didnt seem to be any fast food options available. A McDonalds Big Breakfast platter has 1,560 mg. of sodium; the Sausage McMuffin with egg and hash browns totals 1,200 mg. A Burger King Croissanwich with Sausage, Egg and Cheese, and hash browns has 1,320 mg. of salt. However, I have found an alternative. Nations Giant Hamburgers offers the One-Egger Jr. Giant Breakfast, with a hamburger patty, hash browns and toast that racks up only 373 mg. of sodium. You get even a smidgen less salt if you order wheat or sourdough instead of the white bread. The trick here is that there is very little salt in the hamburger or the potatoes. (Sausage and bacon are still off-limits.) Technically, Nations is not-so-fast food as you may have to wait a few minutes for your custom-made breakfast, but you still pick it up at the counter. The meal, with coffee, also costs about 50 to 60 cents more than the regular fast food counterpart.
Nation's is only in the Bay Area, and this forum is international. Good find, though. You can call ahead your order and it'll be ready within a few minutes.
And even though I live in the bay area- I have never eaten at Nations- I used to work near one- never got to it.
If your life depends on a low/no sodium diet...as mine does, one needs to leave the unhealty fast food trend behind.
