    Wow, scary.

While Turmp clearly won the electoral college and clearly is our new (gasp) president, he lost the popular vote.

    Resoundingly.

However,m as Trump himself has tweeted and stated, in defiance of reality, he won the popular vote when the fictional millions of fraudulent votes were removed, or he wont he popular vote outright because he is so awesome.

But it also appears a frightening amount of Republicans believe he won the popular vote.

While not particularly relevant, where do folks get their information form where this is believed? Trump tweets? Pro Trump conspiracy forums? It seems that one has to go far out of their way to be unaware of the simple fact Trump did not win the popular vote.

Amid the speculation on whether the electoral college will refuse to make Donald Trump president, many Trump opponents are pinning their hopes on one glaring fact: Hillary Clinton’s sizable win in the popular vote.

Clinton’s lead now exceeds 2.8 million votes (more than 2.1 percent of the total vote) and continues to grow. Many Democrats hope this fact alone might persuade Republican electors to reject Trump in favor of some alternative.

But this hope faces a serious challenge: Half of all Republicans actually think Trump won the popular vote.

In a nationally representative online survey of 1,011 Americans conducted by Qualtrics between Dec. 6 and 12, we asked respondents, “In last month’s election, Donald Trump won the majority of votes in the electoral college. Who do you think won the most popular votes?”

Twenty-nine percent said Donald Trump won the popular vote. This is a slightly larger proportion than in a recent Pew survey in which 19 percent said Trump won the popular vote.

Respondents’ correct understanding of the popular vote depended a great deal on partisanship. A large fraction of Republicans — 52 percent — said Trump won the popular vote, compared with only 7 percent of Democrats and 24 percent of independents. Among Republicans without any college education, the share was even larger: 60 percent, compared with 37 percent of Republicans with a college degree.

his same pattern of partisan bias didn’t emerge on other factual questions in our survey. For example, we asked respondents to estimate the size of the country’s African American and Latino populations. As is typical, people tended to overestimate the size of these groups: On average, respondents think 27 percent of Americans are black and 28 percent are Latino. (The correct answers as of 2015 are 13.3 percent and 17.6 percen

Would these be the same polls that pointed to a Hillary landslide, by any chance?

I think if this election has taught us anything, it's that polls can be very, very wrong.

Remember, in Rightwing land, the truth of a statement doesn't matter. Only whether or not it feels true.

The Right really has become the caricature that Stephen Colbert portrayed.

So entirely stupid, the race and campaigns run were not to win the popular vote. The Liberal butt hurt on this issue is ridiculous.

It's like playing chess, getting checkmate and your opponent declares victory because he has more pieces on the board.

He did. In 30 states. Compared to Hillary winning the popular vote in only 20 states. BTW, Hillary won less states than either McCain or Romney. Two-thirds of the country rejected her. Get over it!!

Not really and not surprising, Most Americans aren't political junkies and don't follow politics on a daily basis. Heck, almost half don't even bother to vote. Making a living, taking care of their families, much more important. They hear on the news that Trump won, so he must have won the popular vote. How dumb are most Americans when it comes to politics and government? Take a look at this and tell me if this isn't even more scary?

    http://www.businessinsider.com/poll-many-americans-dont-know-basic-facts-about-government-2014-9

Let's face, most Americans aren't political savvy. It is getting worse as time goes by.

No? They aren't the same polls. Those polls were months a go and this one is recent.

"Republicans R stoopid" is going to be the narrative that many people rest on to get over Trump's win. They're not going to be able to acknowledge that the Democrats presented a thoroughly corrupt candidate who could not connect with the concerns of average Americans outside of urban progressive bubbles, so they need some way of justifying in their minds what happened and why they lost.

I don't know, are they? The article doesn't specify that this information is limited to just Israelis, but if you have some evidence to suggest Israeli brains work differently than that of other humans, I'd be interested to read about it.

It is fun to watch conservative heads explode when it is truthfully pointed out that Trump had to rely on a "rigged" system in order to win, however.

Actually the article does specify exactly that. But you didn't read any further than the headline, so I can understand why you would have no idea.

It felt true to you, so you assumed it was.

Can you point out where the article mentions that Israeli brains work differently than that of other humans?

It mentions the study was specifically limited to the Israeli political spectrum.

    Qualtrics ???

Qualtrics is a survey research software company who provided the software that was used by the majority of the pollsters who predicted that Hillary would win in a landslide.

If you go to the Qualtrics website < https://www.qualtrics.com/ > what you notice are two things, the website is trying to sell itself and you also notice everyone looks like a snowflake.

The system is rigged so that states with smaller populations have disproportionate voting power - a person (Trump) just won the WH while trailing by 2.5 million votes.
The system does not reflect a "one person one vote" majority wins approach - it gives greater voting power to people from less populated states.

Not trying to say Trump didn't win - it's just that the system is rigged.

    Excellent analogy.

As I've said elsewhere, when viewing a chess match, wager against the guy who shows up wearing shoulder pads...

Saying that Hillary Clinton won based on the popular vote is silly. For one thing, you're assuming that people who actually pay attention to how the system works would cast their vote in the same way were the popular vote to be the method of determining the winner. Sorry, but that's simply not the case. And if we're going to rely on a count of the popular vote, I guarantee you that California votes would be given much more attention. (And rightly so. How many illegals voted in the state of California? I have no idea, but I'd be willing to put money on that number being significantly greater than zero...).

Once again blaming the loss on all those stooopid deplorables, instead of the thoroughly corrupt candidate endorsed by the Democrats. Nice job, Dems...

Trump won the popular vote in the 13 swing states that mattered this election.

Sorry bub, but having a 5,971,096 margin of victory in the two big states was only good enough for 84 electoral votes. Maybe next time the democrats can reach out to more than minorities. The same minorities they forget about after every election.

There should be a recount in California.
