I've noticed that once a person has heard one version of an event, it sticks, and it is normal for the person to believe the first narrative for ever after.
I recall hearing, but can not at present find the source, something like: 'A new scientific theory replaces an older incorrect one not on the basis of compelling evidence but when the adherents of the older theory die out and are replaced by a new generation who consider the new theory to be self evident.'
A recent example: There is zero reason to believe the narrative that Russia invaded Ukraine, and in most of the world it is not believed. But in the US and the Anglosphere it was the first version heard and people stick to it despite evidence it is total crap. The way I understand it is: 1/ A person has an ability to learn, that is to gain information. 2/ An ability to forget, to lose information. 3/ And may or may not be good at changing opinions, of updating information. I do updates by marking the old version as wrong and storing the new version with it. And then maybe, eventually the recall will smoothly transition to the new version. But many people don't have a good update capability, and the government knows that and gets their version in there first. "He who lies first lies best." The govt knows this and that's why politicians lie.
It is esier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled. A truth that applies equally no matter the political bend.
People don't like the feeling of uncertainty, so tend to stick to anything that gives the feeling of certainty.
I am willing to die for many of my beliefs....... but I believe that there is an interesting principle that applies not only to the Jewish Sabbath... the fourth Commandment... but to some degree must also apply to other commandments as well????????!!!!! http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/is-it-lawful-on-the-sabbath-to-do-good-or-to-do-evil-to-save-life-or-to-kill.614524/#post-1074502622 Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill? In a way..... to some degree.... I do believe that the full understanding of a set of circumstances.... a situation.... should be considered when making a judgment call on how to deal with that situation??????????!!!!! I do not believe that the Ten Commandments were meant to be applied in a manner that would make life terrible......... or get people killed for virtually no reason at all....... ..... for example..... eighteen and nineteen and twenty centuries ago....... Romans asked Messianic Jews and Messianic Gentiles...... to light a candle for the Emperor....... the Messianic Jewish community generally said no.... and were killed by the thousands...... .but........ the allegory of lighting a candle for the Emperor was to PRAY FOR POLITICAL RULERS.... WITH SINCERITY............ SO......... why was this truth not explained more clearly??????!!!!!
Most of us can surely update our beliefs -- IF -- there is thoroughly-researched, convincing, verifiable information that supports modification or change in those beliefs.
Or.... we meet one guy who we know could not really just make up the story that they just told you....... I know a trucker named J.. who told me about his threatened UFO abduction by Grey's....... Basically... J.. was rejected by the Grey's..... because he was a Blue Collar worker... a trucker..... and the Grey's REJECTED abducting J.. because they needed more doctors and lawyers and white collar high class people to experiment on........ I have been studying the weird and the unusual and the paranormal and parapsychology and pseudoscience since I was a teenager in the 1970's....... ..... and I just can't comprehend how Jim could make up his story and have it fit so brilliantly with all that I have read on this and so many related topics??????? {Did I just go off topic}....??????? [if so... sorry]?????????/ but today is the First Day of the Days of Unleavened Bread............. this is when Israel had left Egypt.... and they were walking toward the Red Sea...... Political opinions....... do connect with the paranormal........ due to what the m i l i t a r y i n d u s t r i al complex........ may have for tech...... http://www.politicalforum.com/index...made-in-america.552308/page-7#post-1074767093
At present there is sufficient information but the difficulty I have is in forming narratives, integrating information into the narratives, and then choosing which narratives are likely and which are very unlikely. It isn't that difficult, the pass mark for a convincing lie is very low because the public just wants to be told that whatever opinion comes most easily to them is right. So they've been told their entire lives to hate Russia, so we give them permission to continue. The USSR closed the Warsaw Pact with our non-aggression promises, so we keep NATO going and growing. So we lied. But we call it 'we won, they lost'. We tell the public that Russia is the same as the USSR, and the public believe it because it's easy.
Am I an idiot to believe that it was a terrible idea for the CIA to put research facilities in the Ukraine........ ..... and then put out information that these biological research facilities might release something far worse than Covid 19 any day now..... .... which was one important factor in luring Putin into invading the Ukraine??????????? Will the war in the Ukraine lead to the exposure of Hunter Biden and then....
I have a different narrative. The conflict in Ukraine was intended to be repeat of the breakup of the USSR - frighten the public, offer assurances that if they broke up their country (the USSR) the confrontation would end, then seize the new economic opportunities.
When I was a child, a teenager, and a young adult I supported the civil rights movement. I have come to believe that the civil rights legislation, the War on Poverty, and the Immigrant Reform Act of 1965 were well intended mistakes. Initially I supported the War in Vietnam. Gradually I came to oppose that war.
Yes, some people believe whatever their political tribe tells them too easily... we also have conspiracy theory crackpot land where people believe stupid things with insufficient evidence. People in either category likely don't know they're there.
Tribalism is certainly a big problem. It is visible on this forum when the Blue Team supports Biden whatever nonsense he spews out. The Red Team is no different. Back in the days of G W Bush the Red Team backed GWB in whatever wars he decided to start. Humans are prone to backing their own tribe over any logic and excusing their own tribe of all wrong doing. We do wrong bit by bit - one team at a time.
Briefly put, I believe as you do, and you see where it gets us. People like us quickly become ostracized by BOTH far-Left and far-Right, and we become "lone wolves" with no tribe at all. In desperation we vote for 3rd-parties and end up with NOTHING but more frustration and alienation..
