I think I've said this before, but I volunteer to help veterans get their disability and assist with other matters. I know this one vet (a registered democrat), totally disabled and a Vietnam vet, who wrote two bad checks for groceries in 1982. Both checks totalled about $160. He had lost his job and couldn't pay them back. He was put on probation and when he couldn't pay the checks he spent 90 days in jail. When he got out of jail, he was told that took care of his requirements. He moved back home to Georgia, got a job and got his life back together.

Fast forward to 2009. He got a letter from the Supervisor of Elections telling him that since he was a convicted felon he couldn't vote and that if he didn't turn in his card he could go back to jail. This is when he contacted the VA and I got involved.

I helped him send a letter to the state requesting restoration of his civil rights. No word when it'll be considered. The last contact with them I sent emails to Scott the members of the commission. He was told there's a long waiting list and it could be "years" until his name comes before the board.

This man served his (*)(*)(*)(*)ing country and the state won't do jack (*)(*)(*)(*).
