If they are (still) doing this, it is illegal. Abortion is supposed to be covered by the provincial health system and it is not restricted as to reason. I know in the past there have been problems, mostly in the maritime provinces, with them refusing to cover it and they have lost federal transfer payments over it.

It is really a strange phenomenon how some folks will deny what they know to be true. If I had not seen it happen in real life I would be certain the person was just being deliberately disingenuous. The mind will twist itself in the most contorted of ways when religious doctrine is questioned.
