The explosion of Christian rock stations over the past ten years is yeliding results quite visible in the secular entertainment world, as well.

"Skillet", wildly popular Christian hard rock band, has debuted its SECOND Billboard Top Ten album with "RISE" ,and "August Burns Red", another Christian rock band, has also broke the Billboard Top Ten this month with, "Rescue $ Restore":

Skillet and August Burns Red Expected to Take Top Two Spots on "Billboard" 200

Two questions come to mind; First, do you know what the word "secular" actually means and second, why do you consider bands in the top ten being Christian is especially significant?

Read the OP. It is a NEW event.

(See? This is the attempted "DOWNPLAYING" approach of attack I was referring to in the OP?)

There was a Christian metal band from Orange County in the 1980s and Stryper's third album went platinum after selling more than 2 million copies and it was the first Christian metal band to achieve this feat.

Yep. And Kansas' Steve Walsh fronted a smokin' Christian band called "Blue City" in the 80's as well.

Stryper is really who put Christian ROCK on the map, I agree.

Christian bands have always been able to crack the billboards. POD back in the late nineties was really good.

The Billboard Top Ten? And not in the "Christian Music " category? Not so much.

Not much, but it happens. Most of the top christian billboard artists are Country stars, or Rock (minority).

    **edited*

Just remembered some of my favorite guys. Not rock specifically. DC Talk was good. Carmen, POD, some good ska and punk stuff I was into in HS but the names escape me. It's honestly been a while

You do know that Creed was a Christian band as well as POD as previously mentioned? If the music is good people will buy it no matter what the subject matter.

I'm an agnostic, and I love a lot of Christian rock, so this news isn't surprising. As pocket aces said, if it sounds good to the ears, people will purchase it.

And jesus saidest to hith followers, "go forth and do not help the weak, do not feed the starving, create popular culture rock music bands, to paise me, for I, and popular rock music, and the revenue it bringeth to large corporations far more important than the message I bring".

I'm an atheist and have no problem with Christian rock other than the lyrics can get a bit stupid at times. Power to them.

As a hard line atheist, I have to say I love Sufjan Stevens, who sings pretty much exclusively about god.

I'm not sure what point the OP is trying to make. Other than pointing out that in fact chrstianity is not under the amount of threat that he has been claiming.

So, OP, if god-rock is this popular, we can agree that the muslims and atheists aren't causing all the problems that you've previously claimed - right?

Yeah because the fact Skillet is a top 10 band can't possibly have anything to to do with the fact it's a fairly awesome-sounding post-grunge band. It must be because they wuv Jeebus and us ignorant atheists just don't understand.

Also, now listening to Skillet - Rebirthing, because I like torturing myself.

No it's not. Big-name Christian bands have been successful for a long time in the mainstream - so long as their music was good.

Here's how Grokmaster makes an accurate prediction: he makes a wildly inaccurate, incredibly dumb statement, and then predicts backlash.

This. Skillet just makes good music, and the lyrics for a lot of their songs are well-composed (even if it's not quite my sound - I like my metal heavier and faster). Hell, I don't believe in Satan either, but I get a huge kick out of tracks like "The Number Of The Beast" or "South of Heaven". This thread is silly. Very, very silly. I just don't get the point.

Well, whatever you want to call it. I'm more into stuff like Behemoth or early Slayer.

It's fairly generic heavy post-grunge (think Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin or Saliva).

Fair enough. I don't know my genres, I was referring to Mechina as power metal the other day before someone corrected me.

Weird... since just about every musical award winner thanks God during their acceptance speech. You're trying too hard.
