In fairness, you didn't give a full translation. Allah is the Arabic word for god, so "allahu akbar" translates to "GOD is the greatest". Arab Christians, followers of the Baha'i faith, and even some Jews use the word Allah, and they are all (including Muslims) referring to the god of Abraham. I'm not one for foreign intervention to begin with, but Syria was an especially stupid situation to get involved in. On one hand you have a brutal dictator, on the other hand Islamic extremists. There's not much positive about either side.

I can't wrap my head around this. The government is suggesting we arm the rebels to help fight Assad. The rebels are organized by al Qaeda. We have 70,000 troops in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban which is being organized by al Qaeda. What am I missing?
