The provocateurs know politics and religion don't mix

Security leak blamed for killing ambassador.
Warnings that missions would be targeted were ignored
The Killing was revenge for drone attacks

America 'was warned of embassy attack but did nothing'

The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach,
American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.

The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".

Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.

Mr Stevens, it is believed, was left in the building by the rest of the staff after they failed to find him in dense smoke caused by a blaze which had engulfed the building. He was discovered lying unconscious by local people and taken to a hospital, the Benghazi Medical Centre, where, according to a doctor, Ziad Abu Ziad, he died from smoke inhalation.

According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.

Well, the attacks in other countries seem to be inspired by the film. So with Libya, Al Quida was basically peeved at how we blew up a leader in a drone strike in Pakistan.

I guess there are worse reasons to be attacked.

More drone strikes will be coming their way.

Unfortunately the drone strike also resulted in what is euphemistically termed 'collateral damage', which in turn will create more potential terrorists. The US, in other words, is playing a zero-sum game. More drone attacks will begat yet more terrorism and so the cycle of violence will continue. One can only surmise that the notion of endless war for the purpose of creating an endless peace (sic), is the long-term policy objective of the US....A dumb policy of course, but then again, US strategists aren't the cleverist of people as the PNAC shows.

Drones? This is the essence of American military doctrine.
Americans create chaos, and now they are feeding the flame.
It's time for you now to make for all these Arabs nuclear holocaust.
But you do not, because the Americans the nation of cowards .
The only thing they care about is money. And in Africa, a lot of money.
Your Obama is not the President but the clown.

Just wondering how the independent actually got ahold of this information. Seems to me that it would be rather top secret?
Who exactly came up with this intell? who was it forwarded to? Was it included in the PDB? Who leaked this story to the media? Is there any corroboration by other news agencies with original sources?

    I'll wait.

I would assume nuking the Middle East would actually be cowardly. If we really wanted to, we could probably kill off all or the vast majority of the Islamic World.

We have a large enough arsenal and the best delivery systems.

What we're doing in Pakistan is largely a result of Pakistan's inability to control its remote regions. If Pakistan could handle this by itself, we wouldn't be doing it.

Perhaps, but as long as we're in Afghanistan, we don't have much choice other than to strike the border regions.

Of course you will not use nuclear weapons. Why do you need radiation-contaminated oil. And else one who will be working in a radioactive wasteland?
You are stuck in this Arab bloody swamp. Drones will not help you.

Rumor has it that the threat to the Egyptian Embassy was posted on several websites during the week prior to the attack. I'm not going to do any research on the subject for you. Pay attention to the British press because the American press filters the news for partisan purposes. Google this stuff. What would one expect on the anniversary of 9/11?

You don't do condescension very well.
And just so's yew nose, journalists have been known to make stuff up, particularly on single anonymous source stories.
Of course working for a british publication they'd never do that.

I keep telling the missus that we should get out more, and she keeps telling me travelling 4 or 5 months a year is too much. I don't think I'm going to win.

    They were warned of 9/11.

In fact they let 4 hijacked planes fly into buildings and did nothing.

They switched off the missile shield at the Pentagon.

Their concern was not for the Americans in the buildings.
Their focus was getting Saudi princes and Bin Ladens family out of Las Vegas and Kentucky!

Indeed. I'm not fond of our bloated military budget but drone warfare is actually set to become considerably cheaper than conventional warfare.

America doesn't have exclusive access to drone technology. What we do to others today will be visited upon us in the future. That is entirely foreseeable.

I doubt it. I'd still prefer us to get out of these conflicts, but it's not out of fear... it's out of cost.

Even though drones are cheaper than conventional means, it's still not cheap overall.
