Now here's an opinion that is way off beam. I was born in Sydney and wouldn't go there again for anything. It's so overcrowded it's not funny, the road system is becoming all pay as you go, and AUstralians are harder to find every day.

It must have been over 25 years ago I went into the city and tried to get some banking done. Couldn't understand any of them, all Asian and not really English speakers.

Sydney used to be the ideal city but govts have run it into the ground and there are more suburbs today that are all one ethnic group than ever before.

All Asian, all Lebanese, African, Australian aboriginal, it's become a group of ghettos.

The Christmas Island issue. It's a detention centre for refugees which the racists call illegal immigrants. We have had a few thousand come by boat and people freak out about it. 20 times as many come by air and overstay their visa, just disappearing into the community and none of these racist swine even comment on that. Our politicians fight about it all the time. It's called "playing the race card" for votes. The right wing party raises it every darned day.

What a racist rant, finished of with a rant against racists.

Cant keep your story straight? In another thread you are expousing your alleged knowedge of Aboriginal culture because you say you grew up in the NT.
I think youre full of BS. Go and peddle your nonsense elsewhere, you dont have the vaguest clue about Sydney.

I'm interested in moving to Australia. I'm a licensed funeral directer in the USA and am wondering if there is any need for funeral directers. I also have kids and would like to know if that would make a move complecated. Any info would be appreciated

I didnt mind Sydney, it has an old vibe about it being set on rocks and the harbours nice, but yea its very multicultural and gets a bit dreary in winter. Melbourne is pretty flat, cold and wet but its people are its depth. I liked Perth, though my misses hates it because its so sandy. Brisbane is ok but feels smaller, better weather but is where humidity starts, anything north of Brisbane is getting too humid IMO. Adelaide.... a bit quiet and dry. Havent been to Hobart (too cold) or Darwin (too hot). Being close to Brisbane the Gold Coast has nice beaches and boating so its my current pick. Newcastle is sorta close to Sydney, sounds allright but I've only driven through it and its a bit too cold and working class LOL.

It's not really an industry I'm familiar with, but people over here make the same habit of dying that Americans do - I'm sure you could find some work.

As for your kids, I honestly have no idea.

Naughty, naughty...shouldn't be telling foreigners that.

'Aboes' is considered racist these days.

Most Aboriginal people today live in rural towns and south Sydney/Redfern and western Sydney.

You really should consider moving to Australia. I have moved from America and been living here a while now and it really is a great place to live, plus has much more job potential than the US these days. If you are seriously looking into visiting or moving here check out my new site and ask me some questions!

After reading through a bit of this thread, I think I'd fit in really well in Australia. I'm very laid back, low strung, polite, have a good sense of humor, and I value fairness and respect. I'm from Michigan in the U.S., and currently live in Hawaii, but am thinking of moving sometime in the next 5 years.

Andyrew912, I'll check out your blog.

You could easily walk right into our public hospital system. Although the public hospital staff are for the most part, dedicated and highly professional, the system failure they have to deal with specialises in turning live people into dead people, big demand for funeral services there.

How big of an issue are the funnel web spiders in Australia? I know they're the most poisonous spiders in the world, but are they more prominent in certain areas? Do they ever get into your houses? Ever been bitten by one? I actually think spiders are really cool, but I do get the creeps when I think of one being in my bed linens when I go t bed. LOL

Also, have any of you ever been in a shark cage? Are there licensed professionals who take tourists "diving" with sharks (in a cage, that is...)? They have that here in Hawaii, but there aren't any great whites, just hammer heads, reef sharks, and maybe the occasional tiger shark, or whale shark if you are off the coast of Ni'ihau.

Lastly, does anyone think it would be hard to immigrate to Australia if one is self-employed? I trade forex online. I do have skills and certifications though, I was a firefighter/EMT in the air force, and am IFSAC certified in:

    Firefighter I/II
    HAZMAT Operations
    HAZMAT Technician
    Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting
    Rescue Technician
    Driver/Operator Pumper
    Driver/Operator ARFF
    Driver/Operator Tanker
    Fire Officer I
    Fire Instructor I
    Fire Inspector I

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, so I'll just post them as I think of them.

    Thanks.

Don't know if anyone is still trying t get answersw here but basically the story is this :

We don't like Americans, they are fine if they stay in the US,

Prices are high wherever lots of people live. Outback towns are cheap as no one wants to live here.

I've never heard anyone say there is a shortage of funeral directors. It's not a profession high on our recruiting list by any means.

Funnel Webs are mainly NSW, particularly Sydney7. But they are moving as the climate changes. Are they a problem? Bloody oath they are a problem. You don't want to run into these bastards. If you think spiders are cool then you're in luck. We've got more of them than you can poke a stick at. Funnel webs are less of a problem than redbacks, which are everywhere.

Shark dives and cages? Nah, not here. We do take Americans for water skiing though, in shark areas. We bet on survival or just loss of body parts. Gets a crowd roaring after a few beers.

If you don't get drunk then don't come. It's our biggest social activity, that and chucking, throwing up and resuming drinking.

Aboriginals tend to actually live in outback towns, mainly the Northern Territory and North Queensland. Those stay where thery are and never assimilate and never progress beyod handout money.

Sydney does have quite a few but they also tend to live closely together and destroy \the suburb they are in. Redfern is one such. But each city has at least one suburb basically of one race. Sydney and Melbourne have several and basically you don't go there. They tend niot to speak English.

We DO indeed need subtitles for any show or movie that has African Amewicans in it. They don't asctually speak English though, do they?

You tend to see only professional Australians over there. People who make a living being Australian. They speak like morons but there's a reason for that. They are. Steve Irwin was a bad joke but you people loved him. A complete idiot and only morons liked him at all.

Anything Makkedde says is likely to be tripe.

Spiders and snakes are something you anticipate. Was bitten as a child when I stepped on one in the garage; I did more damage, was rushed to the hospital. Snakes - encountered them on the beach and in rivers when walking and canoeing. The problem being walking up from the beach, or in the river, they don't 'feel' you coming (vibration). Reduce your odds by not living near bushland.

    They have other packages too:

Rodney Fox is the man to go with.

do they treat foreigners who don't pay into the socialized health care system there? americans here on welfare don't get good health care although the travel expenses will pose a problem.

No mate. Without a medicare card you have to pay for any hospital care. The exception is if you come from a country with which we have reciprical agreements, for example England and New Zealand. But don't worry, you will not be turned away from a hospital if you are in dire need, you will just get a big bill after they finish putting you back together.

    Yep, I certainly did.

    They're racists, pure and simple.

    Very "simple" in fact.

Attaching Australian flags to your car is not only stupid but totally disrespectful. Its not patriotic, its idiotic. The idea that displaying a flag somehow makes one person more Australian or patriotic than one who does not is simple minded twaddle. I would actually suspect the link is to low IQ not racism, statistics show those with lower IQs are much more likely to be racist.

    Why,

We don't like septics here. Slang for septic taqks, yanks.

McCain makes pizzas and fries. American pap.

You come here, now in 2012, you'll have Abbott as the boss. McCain never looked so good.

Everyhere is expensive mate. Some of the outback towens where mining is booming and big wages are paid rent average houses for thousands. If you want cheap, go to Asia.

Polliticians here are the same as everywhere. Me, me, me. You? Oh maybe next election we'll lie to you, again. The word politician means scumbag.

If y'll got one of them there Southern accents you are likely to be shunned and. Your accent is synonymous with right wing politics, people with wild Biblical beliefs and stuipid with it, when they're sober that is. Stereotypes are like that.

Here, that accent is heavily connected to a bunch of recent cannibal backswoods men who kill and eat travellers.

This ain't your country un;ess you take elocutuin lessons. And not from Steve the crocodile dead guy, he's a fool, as proven by challenging a sting ray. Oops.
