Angel Studios Announces $100 Million in New Family Content in Alternative to Hollywood

The entertainment studio behind the hit series The Chosen announced more than $100 million in new original content during an investor's event last week, saying it wants to produce stories that "amplify light" in a world filled with darkness.

Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon told a live streaming audience during "Illuminate '22" that more than a dozen new family-friendly projects are on the horizon, including Season 3 of The Chosen, a new project about the founding of America and multiple new titles for children.

All Angel Studios projects, he said, will "amply light" – a phrase he defined as stories that are "true, honest, noble, just, authentic, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise." The goal gets its inspiration from Philippians 4:8...


…"Angel went from the verge of bankruptcy to $123 million in revenue in one year," Harmon said, referencing the studio surviving a lawsuit by Disney. "This success is fueled by the global popularity of shows funded by 50,000 Angel investors, everyday people who have united together to make the media they want to see in the world."

This is great news! A Christian based alternative to Hollywood. It looks like they have some great projects coming. I can’t wait!

 

Between this and Pure Flix we now have quality alternatives to standard no values Hollywood fare.

I've never been a fan of "wholesome family entertainment", but these days it's obvious that film studios are going out of their way to push an agenda.

They're turning out so much "socially correct" trash these days that even a wholesome family entertainment studio would probably have running chance at being able to compete in the consumer market.


Anyway, I don't think the Progressive Left should be concerned. Every creative entertainment or media firm Conservatives try to start up as an alternative to the mainstream seems to fail or stays really mediocre. To get any traction, Conservatives would have to start up a completely vertical approach to the business, controlling all aspects from the story writing to the distribution of the films at the consumer end. Maintaining a big network and being able to have access to viewers for advertising would be a big one.

 

Goodluck with that. Christian media companies don't have a good track of surviving long. They seem to overestimate the size of their target audience.

 

Weren’t you upset in another thread about how a politican was using religion and here you’re praising using religion to make money? Get your arguments consistent.

 

All the best movies and TV shows are neither 'family friendly' nor 'woke.' It sucks that those are basically the only options nowadays.

'Family friendly' movies are trying to push a social message just as hard as the 'woke' movies are... that message isnt bad, at least, but its still annoying and not enjoyable. I just want movies that arent trying to change me. Like Aliens or Serenity or Last of the Mohicans or The Shawshank Redemption. The best movies dont have a message, they're just good stories. Maybe we ran out of good stories...?

 

The Daily Wire is attempting to do just that. Also, Truth Social through its Rumble cloud is attempting to create a conservative friendly streaming service. Pure Flix is actually a streaming service too

 

This company is not government nor is it a politician.

 

If having a conservative echo chamber is your goal then why post here? Could it be because you know such an echo chamber would

So you’re okay with people using their faith to make a quick buck? That’s honestly just as bad if not worse.

 

They are doing it to provide a service that they and we deem to be valuable and important. Angel is crowd funded. There is nothing wrong with people who choose to do good being properly compensated for their effort.

 

Yeah… that doesn’t make it better. That’s just using your faith to make money with extra steps.

 

I support the creation of social media where conservatives and Christians can speak freely without fear of being censored or content controlled. Alternatives to Google, you tube, Twitter, and Facebook, Netflix, on social media is a good thing. I am on Truth Social and not Twitter. This place is designed for both sides to debate that favors the left a lot less than social media does. I have no problem coexisting with the left on sites with an even playing field like Truth Social.

 

I know that if you had your way we’d have no alternatives to secular progressive entertainment so now you attack providers of opposing views if they engage in capitalism in order to produce competition to your world view

The reason faith based films suck is that they don't understand good story telling because they are too wrapped up in creating a "message", which only works if you are predisposed to that sort of magical thinking.

 

The only religious inspired film that I can think of that received international acclaim was Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, which I found pretty disgusting, but at least I understood its premise.

This is not social media. It’s a political and news discussion place that is supposed to be even handed towards all sides. That’s why I’m here. A competing site, the NewsTalkers used to be like that but is now openly favoring the secular and the left which is why I moved here from there.

It is not a religious site. But it is not openly hostile to the expression of religious belief like NewsTalkers is. There is a Religion section here that is actually interesting unlike the one there where any pro religion sentiment or explanation of why we believe what we do is deleted as so called proselytizing by openly secularist moderation.

 

Call it what you want. What does it make of Twitter and You Tube with few or no conservatives on them? Echo chambers.
