Gun owners are responsible, that is why 99.997% of them will never commit a gun crime.

Which gun law was going to stop this? The 501st? 1001st?

How many kids drowned in swimming pools last summer?

How many kids died in car accidents?

Take those numbers into consideration and the number of kids killed in firearms accidents falls into insignificance. Stop using dead kids in an attempt to illicit an emotional response to further your radical agenda.

Dead babies. How many babies deaths are you unknowingly complicit with? You buy stuff that is made in the 3rd. world. Manufacturers in the 3rd. world treat their employees terribly. Babies of those employees die of malnutrition, bad water, and an endless list of nasty things.
You create a demand for products that kill babies. Pesticides. Stairs. Cars. Bath water. Another endless list.
Do I need to mention abortion?

And which laws do you propose that would have prevented these irresponsible parents from allowing their five-year-old easy access to a loaded .22 caliber handgun?

None of the laws proposed by Obama, Diana Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, Michael Bloomberg or any other gun control advocate could have prevented this, so what exactly was the point of your post?

Here is the CDC data regarding accidental deaths in 2010 (the most recent year that the CDC has complete records): Falls accounted for 25,903 deaths, drowning accounted for 3,696 deaths, accidental exposore to poisons or noxious substances accounted for 30,781 deaths, accidental exposure to smoke and fire accounted for 2,737 deaths, and firearms accounted for only 600 deaths.
The fact remains that the accidental death rate due to firearms is extremely low compared to the accidental death rate due to most other items (especially considering how potentially deadly a firearm is). I believe that this fact alone speaks volumes of how responsible the vast majority of gun owners are.

It's pretty simple; the point of the post was that, because of negligence on the part of the parents, a 9 month old baby is dead.

That being said, If trigger locks were required on all weapons unless they were physically in the hands of the owner, this most likely wouldn't have happened.

huh???????..............what do you call it when one sibling strangles another? How are you going to treat that?
OR maybe the one sib beats the other to a pulp with a club? How ya gonna handle that one?
Maybe some toddler gets mauled to death by the family pet. What's up with that? (I wonder how many times a year that actually happens)

Every wrong gun usage, every crime committed with guns are problem of all gun owners!
Also, if you're so smart, tell me, why are you sure that you will never kill somebody for nothing??

    It's a tragedy, but it's a rare tragedy.
According to the CDC's WISQARS database, in 2012 (last year they have released) there were 46 children 12 and under who were killed accidentally by firearms. That's .09 per 100,000 children. Each of those is a tragedy, but thankfully a rare one. As a matter of perspective, there were a total of 3675 injury deaths for that age range in that year (6.95 per 100,000 children). In 1999, the number was 51 accidental gun deaths (.10 per 100,000).

Wrong gun usage is only a problem for the ones who do it. I am not at all responsible for other people's carelessness/negligence.

And, yes, I am sure I will never kill somebody for nothing. Most violent crimes are committed by people under 35. I'm a few years past that, and I have yet to commit a violent crime. That won't change in the next 50 years or so that I hope to live.

The mother was irresponsible by allowing her 5 year old to have access to the firearm. It already is the law that you cannot allow your 5 year old to have access to a firearm. Charges are pending on this mother. Why on earth would you think that she would be responsible enough to keep the trigger lock on the gun?

    Winner of the month.

To celebrate this ignorant statement I pledge to purchase another case of 7.62x39 rounds.

    Congratulations.

Errrrr. Sorry but are you contending that owning a gun confers some magical ability to avoid breaking the law?? Quite often a citizen is simply a criminal who has yet to be caught, Just being a gun owner does not make you a LEGAL gun owner and given the large number of reported guns obtained by straw purchase their activities may not be legal in the strictest sense but they are still a far cry from being in societies best interest

A gun can be used for intimidation and still be within the law

But this does negate your "statistics"http://www.vpc.org/ccwkillers.htm

Im not contending a magical ability. Im contending that they just dont commit gun crimes.

You are contending that we should legislate guns based upon what 0.003% of people unfortunately do with them.

I would say that is a rather ridiculous standard to regulate anything, especially something that is a Constitutionally guaranteed right.

PS: If you use your gun for "intimidation" it is, in fact, a crime.

How does it hurt a gun owner to put trigger locks on all weapons? Simple question.

    - - - Updated - - -

Obviously you have no clue. thank you.

    - - - Updated - - -

Make it law requiring the use of trigger locks; increase the penalties for failing to keep a trigger lock on a weapon to be a felony. How can that be considered a negative?

So, according you your link, out of 11 million CCW's, 170 have been convicted in seven years. Wow, what an epidemic. Approximately 25 each year.

CCW holders don't need to make straw purchases. To obtain a CCW, your background check is more extensive than when you purchase a firearm.

Anyone who is legally allowed to own a gun is a legal gun owner. If you are a felon or have been declare mentally incompetent then you are exclude from owning a gun legally. Do criminals still get gun by illegal means.... you betcha.

I don't know when it became law, but every new firearm I've purchased in the last few years has come with a trigger lock.
This exonerates the manufacturer from any liability. It puts the onus on the parent. You can't legislate parenting.

the mother is already facing felony charges. Ok, the law has that covered.
How do you propose to "check" whether or not I have one on mine?
What if I don't have children in the house?
How is unlocking a trigger lock going to save me if I have to use it immediately, when seconds count?

Putting a trigger lock on a gun only serves to negate the purpose of having a gun for self defense. When there are kids in the house, it's the responsibility of the parent to teach them about ALL of the hazards. Fire. Water. Electricity. Stairs. Firearms. How about we just make it a law that the parents' bedroom should be locked?
As for your claim against Toefoot. He has clues that are far beyond your capacity to fathom.
How would you go about enforcing a law that requires people to keep trigger locks on their firearms? Warrantless searches?

Because guns work better as guns, not clubs.

    No clue?

Our nation is drowning in laws because of stupid people. No amount of laws will ever fix stupid. Your comments support my theory.

Never underestimate stupidity, eh. As with road accidents, this crap will always occur with some frequency because people are always lapsing in their better judgment and doing stupid things that sometimes prove fatal.

    - - - Updated - - -

Some laws do mitigate stupid's effects, of course. But clearly many gun control advocates have unrealistic expectations of the law to fix all that ails the world.

What seems most effective is not gun control but gun safety

    - - - Updated - - -

It does not work - teaching kids. They will play with them regardless and that is how accidents happen

A gun should always be locked whether or not children are in the house or not. If you have to use your gun, keep the keys nearby and simply unlock it. Shouldn't take more then 3-4 seconds to unlock it.
