Obviously the GOP ...dropping major hints about immigration reform and talking "Hispanic outreach"....no longer sees a viable future for itself pandering to the old "Southern Strategy" voters, the "Kick 'em all out, even the 22 year old med student who came here as a baby in 1993" voters, etc. A 100% white Republican Party would never see the White House again. And eventually even the Tom Delay gerrymandered districts would "shift" and they'd stop winning House and Senate seats. So that route is a dead end. So what happens when the white racists are abandoned by the GOP? My guess....(poll option)....they simply "knuckle under"....keep silent as the GOP rejects them. Primarily because they know a 3rd Party would A. Not work and B. Prove them to be racists. And they'd have no where else to go.
If the GOP establishment elites seize control of both houses in November, they'll have two years to contribute to the extinction of the Party's death-wish wacko birds and confront the existential imperative of winning the votes of present-day Americans rather than pandering to a shrill, vanishing ilk. Elections are won by earning votes, not by surrendering to decibels. My expectation is that the GOP will back comprehensive immigration reform, refrain from maligning Black Americans, abandon attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and begrudgingly accept equality in marriage law. They might even abandon attacking fair wages for America's workers and flaunting their permissive attitude toward homicidal maniacs and criminals acquiring guns. Ultimately, Americans elect representational government. - - - Updated - - - It does, and those who are its victims are best able to determine the distribution of it.
Yes....but only one Party employed a shift in its stances on civil rights (from the pre-1970s Eisenhower Era).....and "suddenly" began picking up votes in the anti-integration Dixiecrat South.... as the other Party eschewed Dixiecrat opposition to gay rights and saw the South flip to the GOP. There is a reason that Strom Thurmond....who ran for President as a "Dixiecrat" on a platform of opposing integration and civil rights in 1948......became a Republican by the Nixon Era and remained one until his death. It's also a bit difficult to make the case the Democratic Party is "rife with white racists"....when it nominated the first African-American as Presidential Nominee of either party. But set all that aside, if you like ....if you accept there are ANY white racists in the GOP....what happens when the GOP starts to embrace policies that the white racists oppose. For Democrats...almost all of them left the Democratic Party...and became Republicans. (again...Robert Byrd repented....Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Trent Lott...Republicaned.)
My expectation as well.....the question becomes....what happens to their white racist supporters? My view?....they surrender, go silent. Become the "crazy aunt in the attic that nobody talks about" in the GOP.

Actually, Crawdadr, you make one case accurately. The Big Money Boys in the GOP want their Party to survive nationally.....so they get more tax cuts, more corporate subsidies, more de-regulation.... now if it starts to look like the racist vote is going to start COSTING Republicans elections, rather than helping them as it did in the 70s, 80s, 90s..... they're going to go to the RNC Leadership and say "Get rid of...or gag...those rednecks. We need to win elections so we can get our agenda implemented." Ironically, Big Businesses, that the ditto-heads have been trained to adore....will be the ones who (to use the analogy again) lock the ditto-heads up in the attic.

To what this thread is about - Republicans need to limit their involvement with the far right Racist, but also the Religious. (My opinion is that Religion as a whole is growing to a more central stance and not the far right of olden days) People still go to church, but aren't quite the "bible thumpers" that they used to be. They need to get some fresh blood into the mix. I'm getting tired of having to vote for people in the 70s if I want to vote republican; not that they don't know a lot, but they have a tendency to be out of touch. Take a different approach to abortion since that isn't getting them anywhere and maybe shoot for father's rights instead. (Still say it's bad of course so the far right still likes them though) There needs to be a something done about immigration and kicking all of them out that are here isn't really the answer. That would be way expensive and way bad PR. Just regulate the new immigrants coming in. (We constantly here at the tail end of May about how hard it is for college grads to find jobs. Less people makes job finding easier) They also need to stop worrying about the rest of the world and look inward first. (what's that old saying about people in glass houses) (I believe this is a common theme however from common people in both parties) They could start upholding the Constitution of the United States and leave my phone alone. They will drop the GOP and turn to Obama care. This could flip the House of Representatives. The Republican base has had an adverse reaction to the latest flood of immigration. Your "white racist" analogy is no better than "low information voters". Those most active in both parties tend to be activists of all stripes. The question - which means you still believe I'm avoiding your question - is what happens when Main Stream or Independent voters flee from BOTH parties. That is already happening by the massive numbers of eligible voters who don't register. And those who are registered aren't going to the polls. This entire country is being run by a tiny minority of activists of both.
I agree, for it is the fact of the matter. We are given an illusion of choice when both parties are of the oligarchy. The real interests of the People have not been represented in years, unless you want to limit it to social issues, like gays, illegals and so on.

That's tricky. Too MANY Republican defeats and they'd look like they were on a permanent losing streak. No, they're going to have to shift the GOP.....while there are still those old racist men still left in its ranks. And just hope that inertia and "Maybe the GOP will come back to their senses and hate minorities again" thinking on the part of the racists will keep them energized enough to vote. But the days of pandering to the racists...to win elections....is drawing to a close. Same as the days of pandering to the homophobes. In 30 years, whites will no longer be a majority in the US. A plurality, but not a majority. And the GOP cannot survive as an all-white party made up of dying Archie Bunkers.

The first African-American nominated for president was not Barack Obama or even a Democrat. It was Republican Frederick Douglass in 1888. The use of race in politics is primarily a Democratic tactic, not Republican. Although both parties enjoy ample amounts of saliva soaked pandering to racial groups these days, so long as they attend enough fundraisers. The only color that really matters is green.
racists change parties on a dime, to them race is the most important issue, right now all racists are republicans, but if a black person was elected as a republican President, they would switch sides on a dime .
All racists are Republican? Last year a party of racists changed a man's skin color from Brown toned to White (Peruvian-American BROWN George Zimmerman) just so that they could create a false meme about a White guy murdering a Black child. This year the same racists instantly came to the conclusion that a White police officer absolutely had to be a murderer and a racist because a Gentle Giant of a legal adult Black man was killed. So it's looking like most overtly practicing racists are Democrats.
