Why shoud he or I care? He did not have racist intent he just drew a caricature with exaggerated features like all caricatures. It would be racist of him to go easy on her just because shes black.

We don't have the same history as you, the artist has absolutely nothing to apologise for.

And the cartoon was spot on by the way. She acted like a complete cow, precisely as depicted.

If people can't handle that they can go have a cry.

BTW - these are serious accusations over here. The hatespeak brigade hasn't caught up to you guys yet, but here any speech which can be deemed reasonably likely to offend on racial grounds is illegal.

If people are over analyzing what is supposed to be a funny cartoon, the artist did a bad job. Usually the cartoon is supposed to make you laugh/happy but there is so much wrong with this one that it takes away from the funny parts.

Yeah I have to agree. I didn't watch the match either, because I don't care for tennis, but when I looked up the scene, I saw too many discrepancies in his interpretation, and now I know why people aren't finding his cartoon funny.

Actually, the cartoonist depicted her with dark skin as well.

Overreaction. Features (facial, weight, waist and boobs, foreheads, eyebrows, whatever) are very often exaggerated in editorial cartoons. In this case he hit an overly sensitive nerve due to the poor state of race and politics in the US. May or may not have been deliberate, we can't tell, but it should have just been ignored. The "I'm triggered" police force don't realize that they turn a lot more people off than on, among those not dialed in to their safe space worldview.

When I was growing up everything was about class. Working class this, class struggle that.
The whole history of mankind was about the proletariat and the bourgeoisie.
The Left fashion the world into a single point - any point. If it isn't about global freezing it's
about global warming. Give in to their issue they will move to another one.

I think Mark Knight is currently Australia's best cartoonist.
If we miss the Herald Sun we often say "We missed today's
Mark Knight!" His sense of the extreme exaggeration, and
skillful use of the brush, is absolutely unmatched since the
    days of Larry Pickering.

It's not even that. It's more getting it so wrong that people point out all the flaws (not exaggerations, just outright flaws) before they even get to the comic's message. It was like he guessed at who and what he was supposed to depict.

When a black woman is blaming her defeat on "sexism" and "racism" and her opponent is both female and black?

If people can't see why that's stupid on it's face, and how much of a knee-jerk exercise in victimology that is, perhaps everyone should start taking it more seriously.

If I was going to created a picture that was racist towards black people I would exaggerate the lips, backside, and frizzy hair. Lets check........Yep that would be the picture.

If that was the case, then that cartoonist would also be discriminate against people with big ears (ex PM Tony Abbott) or those with big chins (Jeff Kennett) or skinny Iraqi migrants.

His characatures are well known here in Oz. You obviously havent done your research on the mans work.

Big lips-yep she has them as she does with hair and butt. That doesnt mean those features are abhorrent. If anything they make the person she is, a beautiful soul that had a bad day.

    Have you had bad days?

So you are saying any caricature of a black person is racist. I think its racist to believe that black people can't be treated the same as anyone else.

The point being made is she was being a crybaby (I actually did not watch the match, so I don't know if it's a valid point or not). There's nothing racist about the cartoon unless it is asserted that exaggerating features is always racist, which is dumb.

Wow, I dont know if it is sincere ignorance conscientious stupidity but either way it is frightening. How in the world you can look at that cartoon and not see what is being said is beyond comprehension.

Those exaggerated features have been common in racist literature for hundreds of years.

So what? What matters is the message. The message is she was a crybaby. Not that black people are inferior. Anybody being depicted negatively in a cartoon is going to be made to look more ridiculous than life.

Oh the message is loud and clear and how you portray people in a cartoon is intentional at that artists level.
