The immigrants were being housed in overcrowded prison-like conditions, and it would not have been safe to have the children stored with strange adults, under those conditions. The Democrats wouldn't give increased funding for better facilities. Under the asinine US asylum laws, the children did not have a choice and could not be released without the consent of their parents, who of course did not want to go back because that would mean giving up their asylum claim and chance to enter into the US. This has all been repeatedly explained in other past threads, but you seem to feel the need to bring it up again. In a thread that is not the most appropriate place to discuss it.

What are you going on about? Trump was forbidden by law, and faced numerous injunctions from judges, that prevented him from releasing the children back to where they came from, even though some of them had family members that were waiting for them there. Then Trump discussed building better facilities for the children, but the Democrats wouldn't give money for that either. Meanwhile, Democrat activists were encouraging more people with children to enter the US and file for asylum, trying to overwhelm the system. These activists based in the US were encouraging people to bring their children there! Who's to blame here?
