I thought you said they would get around all of that.

I didn't say that locking down travel from Ebola stricken countries was all we could do. You say it's bad because it makes people feel safe. Why is making people feel safe a bad thing? Especially when it does make them more safe. It may give us more time to develop an effective response to the disease. We should be sending a volunteer medical group to help find a successful treatment and/or a vaccine for Ebola. We can recoup some of the cost by selling the cure/vaccine to other countries.

We can't afford to invite the disease here and throw money at it. Between medical care, law enforcement, hazmat cleanup, and isolation of people who contacted the Ebola patient, we are spending millions of dollars/patient. Invite Ebola here and see how fast we can't afford to fight it with any effectiveness. Think more than one step.

We should ban passports from these nations unless they are American citizens.

The more he involves us, the more people will be willing to take care of all the infected countries. He wants us believing this is OUR problem and not just theirs. If he isolates those countries in any way, his fear is that we will forget their problem and not be as willing to get involved.
Make it our problem and the cash keeps flowing.....

Cant be, Our fearless leader just said this....

Obama on Saturday stressed that an outbreak of the disease in the United States was, at best, a remote possibility. He noted that Ebola is much harder to contract than the flu and can be spread only through contact with the bodily fluids of someone who is showing symptoms of the disease. He also emphasized that U.S. health-care officials had established protocols to fight the disease and prevent its spread.

    I'll be crushed if he's wrong,,,,AGAIN!!!

I think Obama would do better at one of those Comedy workshops.....

Of course not, what would the left have for their campaigns aside from "The GOP de-funded the CDC so now you all might get Ebola!".

Of course, asking Obama not to stump for them is helping a little.

Even as a rock-solid economic Conservative, I would have no problem at all with the U. S. doing all the heavy lifting R&D for Ebola medicine(s), and a vaccine, if a vaccine is even possible (because this is, after all, a virus we're dealing with). I would have no real problem with the U. S. giving the medicine and a vaccine away for free, along with food, tents, and other supplies to all these failed, miserable Third-World crapholes that are ruled by a bunch of dictators and thugs. NO, it's not right, but in the interest of trying to keep Ebola from spreading all over the planet, it should be done.

But Obama is wholly negligent and probably should be brought up on Articles of Impeachment, for refusing to protect our borders from hordes of illegal aliens (many of whom brought diseases with them), and for refusing to close the nation to anyone who has been in any country with an Ebola outbreak unless they undergo a SELF-FUNDED quarantine of 21 days....

I do not mean cut them off completely, the point was not having a Ban on flights keeps us connected to the problem, and I believe that's exactly what he wants. It keeps us completely connected to their problem, they have to get fixed, otherwise we wont, and that's not right.
Other countries have done it, why not us?

Not to confuse some of you here But, since we have had it and probably will have some more cases then w WE fall under the term when you are talking about Ebola stricken nations, so we should ban all flights in and out of the country? Me thinks most of you have not Really thought this out fully.

Sorry but no one has mentioned where the cut off is when it comes to number of cases, it simply say Ebola Stricken Nations, which includes the US. Does not matter where they got it they have it here now, the nurses got it from someone here. See now how the Devil is in the Details? Making kneejerk reactions into laws often can and does come back to bite one in the arse.
Darn, I just realized whom I was posting to, nothing personal, really, but I make it a rule not to exchange posts with mods or admins on topics unless it is in relation to something to do with the rules here or site issues. So you may wish to simply ignore what I stated above or do not expect any replies from me if you reply to the post, this is a rule I set in place for good reason and has nothing to do with you specifically. Sorry.

About 150 visa's are issued daily to people from counties where Ebola is a problem and without one, or not a US Citizen, it's near impossible to fly into the US. If your really interested in keeping sick folks from entering, IMO it should start there, who obtains a visa.

The real problem will come if and when Ebola hits Mexico, the Caribbean (Cuba) or even Canada. where air is not the only access into the US, where most people on this planet think Healthcare in the US is the best. Of course this excludes liberal democrats, where healthcare is believed primitive.

A new case in NYC. Doctor who returned from helping Ebola victims in Africa. NYC Mayor took to the airwaves to assure the people Ebola could only be caught via blood and other bodily fluids. (How about mucous?) This doctor went bowling(!) and rode the subways(!!) before he developed a fever and went to the hospital. The Mayor had best be right or ... uh-oh.

So far the best idea has been the 21 day quarantine for anyone coming from one of those countries. People opposed to the ban are correct in that it would force people desperate to get here to sneak in under the radar and everyone knows how ridiculously easy that is these days. A 21 day quarantine keeps them out of the general population which is the ultimage goal.

    Flounder, Mr. Moderator, Sir.
You don't value the risk of our few cases becoming
    hundreds of thousands of cases.

This is not a personal attack

    Consider -

We breathe more recirculated air than West Africans.

Remember, there is NO treatment for "the masses" beyond life support and see if they make it.

The American Public Health system did too little too late and feeds misinformation.
Remember when it was as hard to catch as HIV requiring direct contact and open skin ?
Now even those space suits don't protect people because they contaminate coming out.
And HOW do they contaminate? Contact to an open wound as the government requires or maybe aerosol or "hand to mouth/nose/eyes" ?

Throughout this public health crisis of a deadly communicable disease the messages remind me of Obama's reassurances of what the NSA isn't doing until he nod and says, oops it is.

Public Health is about the Rights of the Uninfected above all.

Well geez Louise, first time somebody sent me a Bill Board post....I'll treasure it....

Well, I am for stopping the flights, till we have a better handle on it then reopening. The point I was making was nobody that I know is in a panic mode as some have suggested. It seems if you disagree with some on this matter than you do not get a choice, they ''deem'' you ''panicked''.

It was mentioned if we consider them a Ebola stricken Nation and stop those flights, then since we have it on our shores we should be considered a Ebola stricken Nation and the same should apply to us.
My answer was as you posted, ''Yes, we have a few cases,,,FROM THEM, and they have HOW many? I see no comparison here at all.''

Of course we could stop all our flights if that makes somebody happy under the ''fair to all'' premise, but if we did that then where the hell would they be since we are the ones that will probably save their butts.....as usual.
Bitting the hand that feeds you rarely works out....

You know what I dont get, yes they say that about bodily fluids, yet how many times have they said ''We just do not know exactly how they contracted it.''

Now there are those new suits with respirators, which also stops anything in the air, why the hell at least not try them on these volunteers that go there?,,why not? If we did and they find nobody wearing them catches it, wouldn't that be a good thing? I just do not understand these people.

Of course we would be relying on our Administration to make this most difficult task of switching and not confusing one from the other, difficult matters like this seem to be out of our Governments grasp....
Perhaps little Brown Bunnies on one suit, and little green Turtles on the other....I could suggest number one suit, and number two, but Math and all,, could be a struggle.

The Administration sticks with its agenda. Right now, the White House wants to spring amnesty for illegal aliens - whoops, "undocumented immigrants" - on the public ... soon after the election, since they know the public is opposed. (Democrats want to help the public by importing foreign Democrat voters. Can anyone name another reason?) Ebola is a reason to restrict access to the US - the opposite of what the White House wants at this moment. Ebola might get them thinking about Mexicans with tuberculosis, typhoid, etc., as well as drug dealers and drug addicts. Can't have that just as Democrats are about to execute what they hope will be a coup d'etat, leaving them in permanent control. So what if we have an Ebola epidemic in the US? Who are we to say we shouldn't have an epidemic when Africa has one? Besides, it's for the greater good (of Democrats).

About those hazmat suits with respirators, one wonders why they're needed if Ebola can't be contracted from mucous globules that victims sneeze or cough into the air. Have we been misled to avoid panic? In Africa, I think health workers need to go all over, where the sick are found, since there's a full epidemic. They're not confined to hospitals, so wearing the suits might be difficult. But yes, they should be made available for use when possible.

I think as long as it's not air born I think a Ebola epidemic would be difficult to have here, the reason is education. We are a MUCH more educated people and that's why everything gets out of hand over there. Heck I bet even to this date many over there do not understand an epidemic, to them,,,Sis had a bad stomach,,,sis did not wake up this morning, sis is dead.
I think there are many areas there that people just live hour to hour, day to day, death is just part of it, like night.

Please do not misunderstand me, I feel horrible for them, it's just a different world.

That's the way they think, this is not our country, it's just land. It is as you mentioned the perfect way to grab those votes, and WE are paying for it. What better way to do it? It's not much different than ISIS buying an army,,just pay them, they will fight. They will go to the highest bidder every time, funny thing is these people from the border are conservatives, God fearing people, strong families.

But, give them that check, and they just voted for the liberal platform, as if they care.

    Quarantine Pre Flight Passengers

We need to quarantine pre flight passengers.
Not home quarantine because they could have been exposed and incubating at flight time.
The Quarantine Hilton where the institution and all individuals residing there are required to be Ebola Free for the prescribed time. One case and everyone gets their clock restarted.

We really need to get Biblical about new infectious and contagious diseases rather than assuming it is so very hard to transmit until it isn't.
For a good time and biological model, read up on the transition of Black Plague to Pneumonic Plague that is still Bubonic Plague, just changing from a flea vector to aerosol transmission.

I wanna see Obama hug an Ebola patient to demonstrate how safe we all are!
