How long are racist going to keep trying to tell black folks that slavery was a good thing and we should be happy about it.
Did slaves come here to take up permanent residence, hell did they even know where they were going or if they were going to make it anywhere.
Since they didn't come willing how did they come here with the intention to take up permanent residence.
You're reading way too much into a single word. Immigrating means you go to a new place to live there permanently and that's what they did you can call them Forced immigrants if that feels any better but they're still immigrants.
This is what worries me. Knowing things or research does not seem to be a requirement for government or expected by a good portion of the population. This is Carson trying to whitewash a period in our history. I always worry about people who try to do that and the ones that accept it. History is a good lesson for what works and does not. No need to try to cover up the sins of our ancestors. Trying to suggest slaves came to this country with hopes of bettering themselves and for their children's future is rather asinine IMHO. If they wanted to come they would not have had to be captured and chained up. Similar to an argument I heard that slavery was not so bad since there were other Africans forcing Africans into slavery also.
a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence Since they didn't know where they were going and they didn't come here on their own free will, they never came to this country to take up permanent residence. So your premise is false.
There wasn't any rich slaves who could just pick up and leave. Remember slaves were not paid for their labor.
How long are blacks and liberals going to try to make me feel guilty for something that occurred long before my ancestors arrived here? I'm part Armenian, and you know what happened to them, right? I'm part Irish, and you know what happened to them, right? I'm part Italian, and you know what happened to them, right? There's nothing we can do about the past. And the crazy thing is, SBB, I hear all this complaining and no one goes back to their original country. Most people seem to have accepted it was a bad chapter in our history, fixed, vowed to never repeat it and moved on.
Even after slavery was abolished many Black former slaves ended up in share crops with former slave masters. Why, what kind of moron would stay in this environment if it was so bad?
Well they weren't natives, so they were immigrants. That doesn't have to mean they sailed here on a cruise ship with fancy luggage and a dream of success. It means they weren't originally from here. You know the saying, where ever you go, there you are.
I think Carson was trying to say America is a nation of immigrants, and trying to give blacks some inclusion in that statement. He did it in an awkward way but he wasn't trying to diminish slavery. Why does everything have to get turned up to an 11?
OK fine, slaves were immigrants in the strict sense, yes. but the originals most definitely did NOT come here because they "had a dream" and Carson's phrasing is completely wrong, as it leaves that impression; it's very easy from what he said to think that slaves either came here as indentured servants or somehow sold THEMSELVES into race-based slavery to get here, and they rather emphatically did NOT, they didn't want to come here at all, that's the important part. It's not just a stupid mistake, it's a soul-numbingly mind meltingly STUPID thing to say, and that is mainly so because it was so VERY easy to avoid. Do these guys write their own speeches and then just deliver them without any sort of rehearsal or read-thru or applying any sort of thought at ALL to the process? Or maybe do they just make their speeches up as they go along, in which case they're not really speeches but just stream of consciousness remarks. I'm getting the idea that Dr Carson may have been a really brilliant surgeon at one time, but I sure wouldn't like to have him operating on me today.
Because to some, everyone, including Ben Carson, is a racist. Just the black text these letters are written in can be enough to accuse racism.
It's because the Deep state is trying to destroy this Administration one cabinet appointee at a time. So they are micro analyzing every single word that every single person in the Trump Administration says to try to blow it out of proportion to take down the person that said whatever it is they said.
http://www.forcedmigration.org/about/whatisfm Smuggled people Smuggled migrants are moved illegally for profit. They are partners, however unequal, in a commercial transaction. This is not to say that the practice is not without substantial exploitation and danger. People who think they are being smuggled may run the risk of actually being trafficked (see below). And even if they are not, their personal safety and well-being on their journey and after arrival are not necessarily the smugglers’ top priority. Smuggled migrants may include those who have been forcibly displaced as well as those who have left their homeland in search of better economic and social opportunities. The motivations are often mixed. As the borders to favoured destination countries have become increasingly strengthened to resist the entry of asylum seekers, migrants of all kinds have increasingly drawn upon the services of smugglers. Trafficked people These are people who are moved by deception or coercion for the purposes of exploitation. The profit in trafficking people comes not from their movement, but from the sale of their sexual services or labour in the country of destination. The trafficked person may be physically prevented from leaving, or be bound by debt or threat of violence to themselves or their family in their country of origin. Like smuggling, by its very clandestine nature, figures on the number of people being trafficked are extremely difficult to obtain.
